Offer of help inputting IFComp reviews into IFDB

While I typically use it very little (historically only to delete tags), IFDB mods can make edits from users’ accounts.

I’d be happy to help anyone who wants to post their reviews to IFDB but doesn’t want to have to manually open each game and enter the review.

This would be opt-in and I would only post exactly what people want. In the absence of other direction, I would title each review ‘GAME NAME Review’ like EJ is currently doing on IFDB, and would leave the rating blank. Authors could then edit the rating or title to be what they want. Alternatively, authors could paste reviews into a big google doc with titles and ratings and I could work from that.

This is opt-in, I won’t do this unless someone specifically says ‘yes, that’s what I’d like’. I expect around 0-2 people would be interested. If any of the other mods think this is weird I won’t do it, either!

I probably won’t have time to do this myself, so please do.

I think some of my reviews have already been linked as external reviews, so you might have to deal with that too.

Would it be okay with you if I deleted the external review links after I added the review? My goal here is to simulate your behavior.

And is it okay if:
-I keep in your hyperlinks,
-the title is: ‘GAME NAME review’ (like ‘The Bat review’, and
-the rating is left blank?

For sure. “THE GAME review” is fine. I might go in and change the titles in a few weeks.

Yeah, please keep the hyperlinks, sometimes the review doesn’t make sense without them.

The ratings should be blank except for The Bat (5/5) and Miss Gosling (4/5). I think I’ve rated those on IFDB already without reviewing.

Sounds great!

The first review is up. I’ll keep posting them, and feel free to edit them or to notify me with any systematic change you’d like. I did change the tag ‘DeusIrae’ to the name ‘Mike Russo’.

Yeah, there are quite a few references to other authors/games so if you can take care of that, it’d be great.

Okay, I’m done!

  • I removed a bit from the beginning of Why Pout saying that you’d update your review if the beta version was different from the final
  • I removed the part at the end of Dragon of Silverton Mine showing an image of a google font
  • I changed most usernames to names except for mine (mathbrush)
  • I removed a bit in Shyler Project pointing out a bug for the author
  • I changed quotes (which IFDB doesn’t support) to Italics

I carried over most italicized names but most likely forgot several.

Thanks for letting me do this! Several games only had one review before I put yours up, so I think it helps a lot!
