noodler: erm ahem… the hits I am getting when searching it are NSFW… I’ll let @DeusIrae provide the proper definition of the term. I take it as a ‘tinkerer’ of sorts.

A noodler is someone who interminably messes around with something. Like Jerry Garcia was a guitar noodler.
