I feel like I’m in a Berenstain Bears/Nelson Mandela situation. Did there used to be a label at the top of someone’s first post saying something like “This is a new user, so be nice” or words to that effect? I thought there was, but then I clicked on someone’s profile and discovered they only had one post, but the post didn’t have a label. I could be just wrong.
Is it possible that their original first post was deleted, so that although they only have one post now, it isn’t their first?
it was that and also their first comment, but youre right–i dont see it anymore, not even in the introducing ourselves thread. youre not in a mandela effect–the mods may have turned it off, they can turn on/off forum features with a lot of fidelity.
The Forum did push an update which reorganized some stuff. It’s possible as people have said the process for determining how to apply the “welcome the new user” banner may be changed.
I’m surprised nobody has mentioned “Unread” is gone. It was terribly confusing anyway.
Replace the separate New and Unread lists with a single unified New list that makes it easier for members to distinguish between new topics and topics with new replies. When enabled, the /new route shows a combined view with subtabs for Topics (new topics) and Replies (tracked topics with new replies), and the unread option is removed from the top menu.
Staff and Moderators do have tools - technically it’s an “official notice” that we can add to a post for meta-description-explanation, the new user one is just automatically generated.
Yeah, I just saw it on a different post. I’m wondering if the reason for the difference is one of two things. A) The post that inspired my initial question was a new topic, rather than a new response/comment. B) It was the user’s first post, but they had joined several weeks ago, and read a lot, which may have flagged them as “not new” somehow.
It’s not a big deal either way. I mostly just wanted confirmation that I wasn’t hallucinating.

Yeah, I still don’t love that change, but it’s not a big deal (I could explain why but it feels too boring to bother with haha).
