Necromanceers discussion

This is the kind of game that makes me determined to discover all of its secrets… but after three hours of playtime, my compendium is still not complete! (EDIT: now it is, thanks to HereticMole!) I also haven’t fully unraveled what causes which ending variation for each character. Making this thread so players can share theories/tips/info!

The Compendium

Full list

Cotton - Serial killer
Eustace - Army Captain
Gigant - Giant worm
Gnar - Crystal operator
Godde - Supreme deity
Grissel - Early necro
Henaretter - Spy
Isah - Sky pirate
Lilili - Nature god
Loveday - Sharpshooter
Ould - War manta
Patience - Farm robot
Peregrine - God killer
Philotesia - Warrior queen
Tryphona - Aristocratic explorer
Yru - Octopoid warlord

How to find the more obscure ones:

Lilili: summon Peregrine in ch. 1
Henaretter: summon Tryphona in ch. 4, go to the office, get the key from the tunic, unlock the desk
Patience: not sure what the exact steps are, but keep checking on the birdsong outside Angelfall Manor
Cotton: not sure what the exact steps are, but keep checking the VAMPYR corpse at the crossroads in ch. 2

Limitations on certain ones:

Gnar: only available from ch. 3 onward, and only if you let Credence shoot them in ch. 2
Godde, Ould: only available from ch. 3 onward
Loveday: only available from ch. 4 onward

The Endings
I’ve determined that the ending codes you get indicate: who you summoned last - Jennix’s fate - Credence’s fate - Virgia’s fate

As far as I’ve figured out, those last three things are impacted solely by who you summon in chapter 3 (journeying to Angelfall Manor) and in chapter 4 (getting into Angelfall Manor).

The J codes:

I haven’t pinned down what causes each of these states, but it does correspond to who I summoned on those ch. 3 and 4 choices.

1J - Jennix alive and hopeful (ch. 3/4 summons: Eustace, Gigant, Lilili)
2J - Jennix alive, but uptight? trying to come up with a better summary of this one (ch. 3/4 summons: Godde, Henaretter, Philotesia for 3 and Eustace for 4)
3J - Jennix dead—There is no just plain “3J”, though, it’s 3aJ and 3bJ. But I haven’t pinned down the difference between the two.
3aJ - ch. 3/4 summons: Yru, Patience, Tryphona
3bJ - ch. 3/4 summons: Philotesia, Isah, Grissel, Peregrine

The C codes:

1C - Credence alive and rich (found treasure only)
2C - Credence alive, not rich (found bodies only)
3aC - Credence dies, says he’ll see you again (found neither)
3bC - Credence dies, asks you not to bring him back (found both)

What you find depends on who you summon in ch. 4:

Patience, Grissel, Lilili, Cotton: bodies only
Isah, Godde, Ould, Loveday: treasure only
Gigant, Tryphona, Henaretter, Yru: both
Peregrine, Gnar, Philotesia, Eustace: neither

The V codes:

1V - Virgia still around, friendly toward Returne (happens only if soldiers not killed in ch. 4—summon Patience, Gnar, Peregrine, Tryphona, Lilili, Godde, Ould, or Henaretter)
2V - still around, angry (ch. 3/4 summons: Yru, Eustace, Isah)
3V - not around anymore—but like Jennix, there’s no just 3V, it’s 3aV and 3bV, and I haven’t determined the difference between them
3aV - ch. 3/4 summons: Gnar, Tryphona, Henaretter
3bV - ch. 3/4 summons: Philotesia, Gigant, Grissel

I plan to do more experimenting tomorrow and will update with any new discoveries!

I also had 13/16 but with a few different combinations, ones I found that are missing from this list are Loveday (not certain if there was a definitive hint to this one other than typing in all the names I remembered to see what worked) and Ould (talking to Jennix in one of the “hub”/exploratory sections).

Oooh I had meant to try Loveday but forgot! Will have to replay some more of those convos to get the other one; I have mostly been skipping them on my repeat playthroughs.

There’s so much here that I missed!

I’ve found the final missing name! It’s Cotton - in The Vertical Battery near the beginning of the game, explore the valleys → crossroads → corpse on the pyre. I think this is tied to having a lot of names on the compendium already as doing it in the beginning (and on a second playthrough with 3/16 names on the list) does not give you this info. Or it could be from summoning Lilili, not sure.
