Escape the Wumpus by Vitalii Blinov

I’m only familiar with Hunt the Wumpus in theory. I know some of the basics about it, but I have not played it. So if there’s some obvious references flying right over me here, that would be why.

I generally enjoyed the puzzle of Escape the Wumpus. I kept a map with pen on paper as I went, and this was extremely helpful. I am pretty sure I would have gotten very turned around otherwise. I felt determined at figuring out which way to go, and in that, it was satisfying when I had successfully mapped the space. Beyond this, the puzzle was relatively easy to solve. A padlock combination is randomly generated each play, so you can’t circumvent getting through the space in the intended manner.

I do feel like there were a bunch of things that should have been something, like a computer sitting in one room, or a mouse hole in another room. I won the game at some point and felt like surely that was not actually winning, was it? I went back and spent far too long figuring out all the valid potion mixtures I could, only to discover that doing so simply changes the hyperlink color. Finally I looked at the provided walkthrough and determined, yes, I beat the game. Are these other things just references I don’t get, ambience, or under-utilized game elements? I do not know.
