i went through this last november.

i eventually got everything installed manually but it was a frustrating ordeal and i would not want to go through it again. if someone was going to make an apple silicon pre-built package they would have done it by now. so i think TADS3 is functionally windows-only for most people at this point.
Unfortunately, that is what I have found as well.
Years ago, I installed Parallels on ma Macbook Pro to run windows apps. I’m not sure you can do that with the M4.
Thank you, Jeff
I just checked Parallels. It is now $119 per year. A little pricey for my needs.
MacPorts has an unmaintained port of FrobTADS, but it does apparently build on ARM Macs.
I’m running TADS3 on an ARM Mac and don’t remember any complications getting started…
yes, you can definitely build it on ARM. i’m talking more about the casual user who isn’t tech savvy or doesn’t want to jump through the hoops to perform a manual build.
the mac build also puts things in places that don’t completely match up with the documentation and can cause some confusion and issues as well.
it’s just too bad that we’re going into the fifth year of the intel->ARM transition and there’s still no ARM prebuilt for TADS available (i have no knowledge of the macport portmentioned above). it definitely makes modern macs a ‘second class’ citizen.
I don’t know much about Homebrew or Ruby, but I think this is the old formula for FrobTads: https://github.com/EricFromCanada/homebrew-core/blob/474d764290bb62e1763b9648ba96bb25e6576b25/Formula/frobtads.rb
Perhaps it could be updated and accepted into the latest Homebrew.
Thank you for the additional guidance. I will try an install again today.
I was able to install TADS on my Mac mini. ! WaHoo!
I solved the problem with compiling. I managed to get the permissions setup correctly.
Thank you for all of the tips and help!
Note: Installing adv3lite installed easily per intro instructions provided by Eric Eve.
That’s good to hear.
