Looking for tiny collabs to help cover up an embarrassing secret (finished)

I sometimes enter competitions anonymously to judge people’s reactions when they don’t know it’s me. If it does well, I put my name on it and if it doesn’t, I pretend it never existed.

I have one such game I entered into a competition in the past that I would like to put my real name on. However, I based it on real life experiences, on ‘me’, and comments I received indicated that the protagonist was creepy and/or pathetic.

That’s pretty embarrassing! I don’t want to put my name on that! But, the best place to hide is in a crowd. If I get other people to contribute fictional or non-fictional parts to my story, no one will know which part is ‘me’ and which part is fake.

So I’m asking for collaborators to add little bits to my game, anywhere from 40 words to 1000 words. The theme is romance. I don’t want to put my name on anything with strong profanity; hateful remarks towards races, ethnicities, sexualities or religions; or explicit sexual content.

Anyone who’s interested can DM me (or reply here) and I can explain a little further the requirements.

There is no glory in this. I’ve done this once before with another small game:

While it did get 3 reviews (thank you!) that was mostly due to a competition it was in, and it only got 5 ratings overall. Working with Wade, Hanon, and Victor was very fun, but it wasn’t a game to get famous, and this game won’t be either. It’s basically just a low-key collab.

If no one at all volunteers then I will pretend people did and add a lot of fake stuff. Thanks for your time! Again, you can DM or reply here.

Choice or parser?

For the assignment, it doesn’t matter, I just need plain text.

I will hide the format because, for the competition I entered it in, my answer would narrow it down too much, I fear, before I’m ready to be found.

I think the overall vibe I’d like the final result to give is a kind of Spoon River Anthology

I can’t cover up but I can throw off

joking aside, my writing style is already know as “peculiar”, so I can give you up to three bits to your game, but you understand that the writer will be unmistakeable  the choice is yours.

Best regards from Italy,
dott. Piergiorgio.

Im 100% up for it!

Here’s a creepy pathetic awesome romance story for you:

I knew Tom for years before we ever dated. He was a sweet, weird dude. And he started stalking me. Seriously, he would hang out across the street from my house hiding behind a street light and I’d be like, “Tom, what the hell are you doing?” And he’d come out all sheepish at being caught because he was such a terrible stalker and we’d have a drink and I’d shoo him off. But he persisted.

Until one day I realized that this was extremely sweet and he was great and we started dating and now we’ve been together for 23 years. And this is Tom’s MO. He stalks people in this really goofy way until they realize how great he is. He stalked this artist he admires for literally 10 years until she just gave up and decided to be his friend.

How creepy and pathetic and totally romantic is that?

That’s a great story! I don’t think I’ll try that strategy at this time in my real life but it’s fun to read. Thanks for sharing!

It only works for Tom, sadly. If I tried it it would just be scary and unhinged but everyone just thinks it’s adorable in him.

I think I’ve messaged everyone who’s responded so far. As a general deadline I’m thinking of July 19th, but I can update the game later as stuff comes in. Thanks for everyone’s help!

Oh and I think people who signed up already know this from what I sent but the current writing is in first/second person using ‘I’ and ‘you’.

Thanks so much to everyone who contributed so far! I’ve really enjoyed what people have messaged me.

This closes July 19th, and then I’ll make a draft version that contributors can look over.

For those sitting on the fence- (since I know some people had been curious privately) I chipped in, and it was a totally smooth process! The commitment asked is really teeny tiny- one or two sentences in plain text is perfectly acceptable. It sounds like it’s shaping up to be a really cute project, and Brian was super lovely to work with. Looking forward to seeing the draft!

If the offer is still up, I don’t mind contributing.

I’m in, but I’m not sure what is needed. What can I do to contribute?
