I’ve been working on an English adaptation of the Kenji Eno audio game Real Sound: Kaze No Regret and I finally have a script.
I’d like to ask permission from the company (From Yellow to Orange) to adapt it into a fanmade English audio drama.
However, their web page is solely in Japanese, so I’d rather not send them an English message out of nowhere. Let me know if you’re interested in writing a short email and I’ll give you a few points to cover.

It’s a small company and the rights to the work are seemingly no longer owned by SEGA. I think I have a decent chance of getting an answer and a yes.
I’ve asked for similar permissions from other parties in the past and been successful.
Is there a reason why you can’t translate your message in Japanese and preface by saying “hi, I’m not a Japanese speaker, so I’ve translated my English message (which is located below) but I’d still like to work with you”?
Thanks! A good idea to fall back on, but I’d prefer to make a good first impression.
If I was you, I’d write it in English, then use something like Google Translate to translate it into Japanese, then get a Japanese speaker to proofread that. Proofreading is much quicker and easier than writing something from scratch and you’ll know that it says what you want it to say.
I just looked at their site. They’re actively searching for a voice actress right now for that very game. Looks like they may be in mid-development on some kind of remaster or something.
Yeah, they re-released it as a Japanese audiobook last year and were looking for past voice actors.
If you’re looking at the same page that I am, it’s dated June 2024, a bit before the release of the audibook.
Which is why I want to seek permission. It would be under copyright regardless, but they’re more likely to care about it now. I might need to pay a licensing fee … or not, since they seem to be indifferent to the English market.
