I am confused. What is the latest download? I see people in the Forum using version 10, but that doesn’t seem to be available. The download page doesn’t go beyond 9.3. Also, I am currently using version 1.82.3 on Mac OS 12.7.3. Am I that far behind that there are 9 versions newer than what I have?
The latest release is 10.1.2.
inform7.com → Graham Nelson’s GitHub site → “The latest release of Inform” → 10.1.2 (including for MacOS)
(I don’t know if there is or was some separate versioning scheme for, say, the MacOS IDE that your “1.82.3” might come from.)
(What download page were you looking at?)
It’s a bit confusing, but the main download page has a link at the top to a different download page where you can get version 10.1.
Thanks. I don’t know where 1.82 came from, but it was only about 3 years ago, so although I am still confused, I will download the latest version after I update my Mac OS.
1.82.3 is indeed the version of the macOS Inform app, which is developed separately from the actual Inform compiler within.
OK, thanks. Does that mean I already have the latest, and don’t need to download anything?
If you open a file and go to the settings
tab, you will find a section called “Language Version”. There’s a dropdown that will let you choose between Current, 10.1, 9.3, 9.2, and 9.1. Set that to Current and you’ll be good.
