Jenkins for testing builds?

New Inform 7 extensions site indicates that Dave C had, at one time, a Jenkins server. I’ve also seen Kerkerkruip have a Jenkins server that ran when I submitted some typos to fix. So … I know it’s out there, but I don’t know what I’m doing.

Now this has been a goal of mine to learn this year, but I never quite got around to it. However, I know how to build from the command line, and I know how to run Zarf’s regression scripts. I’m assuming that would be enough, once I figure how to run Jenkins. I figure having some code that’s purely my own will be a nice goal and a strong motivator to, well, learn about it.

Would anyone be willing to help me out? I’d be glad to write out a step by step list of what I did, in order to help other people do the same. Because while automated testing sounds intimidating, it’s helpful even in small doses.

I suppose even being pointed to basic steps would be a help, but I don’t know where to start.

Kerkerkruip never used Jenkins, we used Travis CI. But there’s a lot of overlap.

I don’t know how Jenkins is configured, but for Kerkerkruip on Travis we just used Make. Most things will run on Travis, so you don’t have to use Make.
