Intermittent error after installing sugarcube 2.36

If you are requesting technical assistance with Twine, please specify:
Twine Version: 2
Story Format: sugarcube 2.36

After installing a new story format, I am getting this strange issue. The links still work but they all have <<link>> in front of them and none of the variables from storyInit.twee are set.
I am running the latest MacOS and VSCode and I’m using tweego.
After a couple restarts, everything works normally for a while then breaks again after a build command. When I revert back to sugarcube 2.30, the issue clears up.
The image is from the browser.

That’s test mode: if you Test instead of Play from Twine (or pass -t or --test to Tweego) you’ll get that kind of rendering…

But I don’t know why it would happen accidentally, and it shouldn’t affect the StoryInit processing.

I do see that the Twee 3 Language Tools extension for VSCode updated on Friday the 13th, so maybe that changed something as well?

I don’t know… hopefully someone else will have a better idea…

Josh,
Thank you. I must have accidentally clicked on the VIEW button. Previously, it was always off and I never saw that output before, just the wonderful debugger.

Thanks for your help!
