Inkjam is back for a 2026 edition

Celebrating 9 years, we’re running a 9-day jam starting August 15th.
The jam invites creators to submit a piece of a new something (game, experiment, whatever) made with the ink narrative language.

A “theme” will be announced on day 1 of the jam.

NEW THIS YEAR:
If you’ve created something that used ink in the previous 12 months (since last inkjam, including sth you did not submit at the time!), feel free to submit it as a SHOWCASE ENTRY.
These will not be ranked, but it will be nice to see them all in one place.

As the co-host I’m just here to say hi and let you know we can answer questions about the jam here too!

Can I work on the plot beforehand?

In case it’s of interest to anyone (or anyone’s younger relatives!) I’m also trying something new with online educational enrichment provider ThinkersMeetup where I’m offering to provide five mentoring sessions during the JAM to under 18s who would like to take part and would prefer having the support of a mentor to keep things from getting stuck, help find team mates, and handle some of the technical and legal issues around younger teens not being allowed to use Itch.

To make my possible conflict of interest totally clear: we are charging for this, mostly because (unfortunately) we can’t afford to give away educational services for free. I’d love it if we could, and we’ve tried to keep it relatively cheap: https://www.thinkersmeetup.com/service-page/tmu-take-on-the-inkjam

I’m not one of the organizers, but from the FAQ on the JAM page:

🔹Do I have to write everything during the Jam?

🔸Entries for the ranked competition MUST be written during the Jam. Though we also invite showcase entries. Anything written using ink in the last 12 months can be submitted as a showcase entry for others to play and enjoy.

So it depends if you want to take part for fun and let people see your work (you’re good) or if you want to enter your game as part of the competition (you’re not good, but you won’t get the theme until the start, so I’m not sure how you could pre-plot in detail anyway).

I don’t think any of that prevents you having general game ideas before the JAM - it’s not like that could be policed anyway :man_shrugging:
