Win11 is insidious! I copied the file to one of the servers that I manage. It blocked the sftp transfer. I downloaded it to my RPi 5, copied it to a fob and then tried to copy to Win11 from the fob. Win11 even removed it from the fob!
I REALLY do not line MS Windows 11 - Anger mitigation mode in full!!!
I guess I will just develop I6 / Punyinform games on the RPi. (I haven’t tried the Mac Mini M4).
Wow, that is truly a new level of “security”. I hope the next Dialog release doesn’t run into this…
FUD without a trace of doubt. vectored thru “security” on top of it. Targeting the non-for-profit software. (similiar issues are reported on w*11 ports of GNU software…) enough evidence for igniting the embers, I daresay.
Deep apologies to Damnii, but here the guns are aimed, chain-ball loaded and ready to fire (it. “fuoco a palle incatenate”, for who know the Italian sayings), but I’ll leave to Mewtamer the pleasure of firing the opening salvo ![]()
Best regards from Italy,

Gross!
You’d think it’d be common sense for an OS to not delete a userland file w/o permission >>
You can switch all that off.
Settings->Windows Security->Virus & Thread protection-> manage settings,
Disable
and more. Note that (1) comes back when you restart. I have a script to stop it
It doesn’t help much, but I’m able to download Inform 6.43 on Windows 11 (specifically, version 24H2) without a problem. And I do have the full Norton suite running as well as the standard Windows protections. I’m also able to compile it from source on Windows and the executable is not flagged. (I might be missing something specific that you’re trying to do.)
No joy. I have been using Windows since DOS. I didn’t know about these settings. Made changes as described. Windows Console Executable - Still blocked. ![]()
Thank you for your help.
I will try downloading version 24H2. The link in the announcement just will not download.
Maybe?
Yeah, that can happen. That’s a browser issue. With Chrome, look if it asks you if you want to “Keep” the file. It will say that in the Download history for the file. That might be what’s happening. If you don’t actually keep it, then the file will never be downloaded. In fact, the browser likely won’t even try to download it at all unless you do a “Save link as…” in that case.
Unfortunately, i don’t get that option - only virus detected in red.
However, I went to the IF Archive - I found the “inform643_win32.zip” file and selected the “view contents” option. A popup window provided the “inform6.exe” file which downloaded without restriction.
The inform6.exe file is the 6 August 25 version and works!
Thank you for leading me to the solution!
