There won’t be an official awards ceremony. Anyone can view the current standings right now, but I plan on making a summary post once polls are closed.
Due to different time zones, the actual closing time will likely be in the morning on the 18th in Texas time.
Thanks for everyone who has participated!
A reminder that polls with few votes will not have winners awarded. This could include polls with < 5 votes for the winning game, less than 10 votes overall, or that has a 3-way or higher tie for the top place. Exceptions can be made at the organizer’s discretion (for instance, if 3 games all got 6 votes, a 3-way tie might be appropriate, or if only 2 games received votes and had over 5 votes for a winner but less than 10 overall, a winner might be called).
Next year’s awards will be significantly smaller, and people’s choice and author’s choice will be consolidated! To accommodate smaller categories people are passionate about, I may add a ‘catch-all’ category where users can comment with any award they want, similar to the Spring Thing Ribbons competition.
As of now, no other polls have a gap between top games and lower games large enough or enough votes in general to merit a clear winner (or pair of winners). This can of course change in the next few days!
I’m not planning on listing all the other polls, as some polls will not survive until next year and that’s okay; but if there’s a poll you care about, feel free to encourage others to vote in that poll!
One final note: To avoid clutter on the awards day, games that win both polls will simply be titled Outstanding ______ Game of 2022. The ‘author’s choice’ and ‘player’s choice’ will only be added to games that won one poll but not the other.
The same will also apply to games that win one poll where the other has no clear winner.
Is there a relation between which categories get cancelled (at least for one year) and which categories do not get a winner awarded?
Because, I would rather see a category cancelled for a season than no winner awarded as the latter would mean that people have played several games in vain (“vain” sounds very pesimistic but I hope you know what I mean).
It all depends. One of the inform 6 polls has had 0 votes the entire time. I don’t think we should keep that one.
But like the Adrift games, I feel like there would be a reason to bring that back next year. And the language ones I’ll just let each community to figure out on their own.
Just popping into say that I’m tabulating preliminary results! When I close each poll in about 24 hours I’ll check to see if the final results have changed.
I have found some suspicious voting patterns so those following the polls may see the numbers fluctuate between now and tomorrow as votes get disqualified.
