I tried that early on. It broke some part of the IFDB “play in browser” button that couldn’t handle redirects.
Or maybe it was an interpreter with “browse ifdb, select a game, play it” functionality? I can’t find the message describing the problem.
I mention the idea here in 2017: Shifting the IF Archive to https-always, dropping FTP . But I think the problem happened years earlier and I was then (in 2017) still being cautious about it.
