We’re more than halfway through October now, and in just two weeks, all the ECTOCOMP 2026 entries will rise from their graaaaves!
How are everyone’s games coming along? Feel free to give us a preview by sharing titles or blurbs or cover art or other glimpses of what’s to come. And for all the procrastinators like me, it only takes four hours to recklessly piece together a monstrous creation or two for La Petite Mort!
In 2024, I participated in Ectocomp. I took a folklore creature and had some fun with it. The name was taken from Matthew 6:3: "But when you give to the needy,do not let your left hand knowwhat your right hand is doing."
In 2025, I participated in Ectocomp. I took a folklore creature[1] and had some fun with it. The name was taken from Matthew 6:22: "The eye isthe lamp of your body.(…)"
In 2026, I’m participating in Ectocomp. I take a folklore creature and I have some fun with it. The name is taken from Matthew 6:34: "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, fortomorrow will worry about itself(…)"
This is the last time I’m taking the title from Matthew 6, just because I mostly exploited it for titles for a third year in a row and I’m running out of ideas. I’m not willing to say a lot but I can say that this time, we’re dealing with an opposite situation from the one presented in one of my previous Ectocomp works, which is very fun. Some of my friends already saw the opening line but I’m going to post it here just so everyone can see it, just because I think it’s a banger of an opener. No, I don’t take criticism on that.
Last month: wow I’ve written so much of my Ectocomp entry already! This is either gonna be huge or I’m gonna be done so far ahead of time!
Now: oh god am I even gonna submit this aaaa
I invite you all to anticipate the I guess now-annual Coral Nulla traumadump visualnovel, in which I continue to continue what was once a cute story about young women trying to make it in the indie world until it is entirely unrecognisable and yet much the same all at once, a bit like my life each time this season comes around. This one is the scariest yet and also the most out-of-place. Probably.
Here’s my coverart for this year’s comp . I managed to be surprisingly organised for me and the game is almost finished, just need to make a few edits I think.
I’m working on an Inform adaptation of “The Cask of Amontillado,” which seems to have been adapted twice for Twine (but not, so far as I can tell, in the way I am adapting it!)
Looking forward to seeing everyone’s entries! Mine is in the hands of beta testers this weekend.
This is the first game I’ve made since acquiring a drawing tablet, and the decision to make a LGG this year allowed me to luxuriate in the lack of time restriction by painting oodles of character portraits (including a LOT of skeletons).
“Fly mind is not an LLM. Fly mind is not a simulation. Fly mind is a connectome: a digital reconstruction of an actual fly’s brain.”
I went in the direction of science fiction this year, educating myself about flywire brain research. La Petite Mort, which tells you that my blurb (above) is a slight exaggeration. But flywire.ai is the real thing.
This will probably get trimmed down to fit in four hours, and the current concept is less spooky than perhaps it should be, but I think we’ll have a fun time building it!
