How do ships?

Haven’t played it yet, but he just released the game here: The Interactive Fiction Competition

That doesn’t mean he clarified tech details in the game, though, so the question could definitely be valid anyway.

Oh, thanks for the info. I personally don’t care for comps and jams, so I missed this.

I love steampunk (but not only). So this question sort of drives me.

Yes, but it’s only vaguely described in the game. For example, the way the lifting mechanism is described to the player character, a gas gets heated up and processed into something that’s not a gas that lifts the ship, but all the technical terms are left untranslated (rather than saying either “it gets ionized and becomes a plasma”, or “the ether is given a galvanic charge”).

I wanted to make reference to some of the cool things I learned in this thread, while also maintaining the theme that the player character is an outsider here and doesn’t really understand the details—plus, it explains away any mistakes I made in the technical parts! Clearly the engineers know how it works but the player character just didn’t understand the explanation properly.
