I have managed to climb off the boat onto the debris, I am carrying the rope, and the game hints that I should tie things together. However I try, I cannot get the PC to tie anything. What am I missing?

I had trouble with that puzzle too! In case you (or anyone else) still need the answer, I found that typing USE ROPE works for what you’re trying to do.

Ah, yes, the one time I did not think of trying (nonsense parenthetical remark to avoid the length of the spoiler giving it away) USE as a verb is the one time it is what the author intended. Thanks!
