Hiding Topics By Tags

Is it possible to simply not see any posts with a certain tag? Like, especially with the “Latest” posts on the main page?

I’m getting tired of reading about a certain kind of topic lately and just want to filter it out entirely.

If you click on a tag, that should take you to a page with a bell icon in the top right. Click that, and you should be able to set it to “Muted”, which will remove it from your feeds.

And then if you want to see them to see if you’re missing anything interesting, you can go to that tag’s page, e.g. https://intfiction.org/tag/vorple.

Also, each topic has a status: Watching / Tracking / Normal / Muted. Depending on your settings, topics may get set to Tracking just from you reading them (I don’t think that’s a default: pretty sure I turned that on?) and Tracked threads will still be hidden from Latest but they will show up in the Unread page and in the New & Unread Topics shown below other threads.

You can avoid that by setting the individual threads back to Normal, using the bell icon on the side while you’re in mid-thread (or it disappears and turns into a normal drop-down below the last message when you get to the bottom). You probably don’t want to Mute individual threads because then they won’t show up even in the tag’s page (there is a settings page to show things you’ve muted, but it’s flaky).

Yes, from the sidebar you can click “Topic Notifications” then set “Automatically track topics I enter” to a value - you can choose from “never” to 10 minutes.

I find faster and easier the good ol’ eyeball Mk.I; when I see “ai” in the tags in a new topic, I ignore it and read the other new topics, then, when in the new topic page reamin only the unwelcome debates, I click with the “dismiss new” button, and the non-grata tagged topics are automatically hidden (actually, muted)

Thank you, everyone!

Now, if you can tell me how to get rid of AI-generated slop while searching topics in YouTube… my blood pressure will thank you.
