Hello
New poster. I would like to do some beta testing. My only limitation is that I run Linux as my desktop OS. I also have an android tablet if that’s of any use. I don’t know how I have got that weird scrolling box below. I did not intend that. I will write this as one paragraph to stop that. Sorry approaching half a century around the sun. I was not brought up with computers.
i don’t have anything right now at the beta-testing stage but will in the next month or two and have bookmarked you.
Thank you! I beta tested someone’s Twine game on Reddit a few days ago. I like to keep notes as I go. He used my suggestions and pick ups. Old school text creations or electronic forms - I am happy to beta test either. I like Twine creations to beta test because even on Linux I open it in the Chromium browser.
Welcome, Linux fellow !
If you want to ßtest something, you can test my major work, called Isekai: if you want, please contact me via PM.
Best regards from Italy,
dott. Piergiorgio.
That might actually be a feature rather than a bug - for those of us who don’t brush with Linux normally, having a user see if a game also works in that OS could be valuable information and feedback.
Hello and Welcome!
I’ll have something for you to test late next week. I’ll DM you.
I want to release a demo in early-to-mid January. I hope you can play it
I apologize for being slow to respond! I am happy to see people who would like me to beta test their gamebooks in the future! Yes, a DM at that point would be great.
I am open to any genre or style of gamebook. I am experienced with gamebooks. I also used to be a zonebuilder for MUDs. There is a LOT that hasn’t been done in gamebooks. When I search for “detective” in the Demian Gamebooks site the results are thin; I would like to see someone here create a whodunnit/detective gamebook. Twine would be such a fantastic tool for that. Nothing wrong with fantasy LOTR style gamebooks. But I’d like to see a few different things.
Historical gamebooks as well. I remember reading The Cretan Chronicles ages ago. If someone wants to go into hardcore adult themes I am pretty unshockable; it frustrates me that for commercial reasons gamebooks have to self censor.
Can you share more about what hasn’t been done yet that you would like to see?
OK, I am very happy to expand a bit more.
- Very few gamebooks have tried to create outcomes where you can avoid all fights and risks by making intelligent choices. The only one that seriously tried this was The Legends of Skyfall series. For instance you would be asked when you entered the dungeon where you put the ladder after climbing in, and then on your way back after completing your mission, would have an easier time if you placed the ladder somewhere helpful. Sadly the Skyfall series was seriously flawed in many other ways. But if you used imagination and a bit of logic you could complete the mission with no monster fights.
- A “normal life” gamebook. I am serious. There’s huge potential here! Closest series I can think of to this was The Starlight Adventures series.
- Historical events within our lifetimes. I don’t know if it’s still too raw to have a Sept 11 gamebook. Maybe. Look at the other events over the last 25 years. The 2004 tsunami. Various disasters with the Space Shuttle or Concorde. You could also go quasi-historical; you are a scientist who is aware that AI will take over the planet in a year. No one will listen to you. You decide to go rogue as a whistleblower/saboteur to save the planet from being enslaved.
- Playing the bad guy. Yes, I know the immediate response. Wouldn’t a bad guy just kill everyone and be boring. But I don’t mean that. A bad guy in a way that is more complex. Think Dagoth Ur in Morrowind or Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes, or Hans in Die Hard, as complex bad guys. There’s a whole area here in gamebooks that has not been done.
That’s just a few possibilities that come to mind!
The game I am working on (the full game, not the demo I will share soon) is going to have 4. (so I have planned - this might change later on) and also 3. (somewhat) !
Hello. If you’d like to beta test my sci-fi adventure PM me and I’ll share the link (and solution if you get stuck).
