“How long will your House endure?” I’ve created a multi-generational game of royal legacy and family drama, with historical context and choices that matter… and would love to get feedback on it. Give it a shot if you’re interested in this kind of game. You can find it at the URL which is the game’s title (heirandspare) followed by .io
I played a round and the game seems pretty solid. If I could make one technical suggestion - the character icons are about 1mb apiece at 1024x1024, which I only noticed because the first one I saw painted so slowly, which means it’s progressively loading. Since you display them at 64x64, you could scale them down to something like 256x256, which more than accounts for retina displays and results in a sub-100k filesize, and even run through a compressor like ImageOptim, which results in a filesize of about 20k, for example:
I’m a fan of Crusader Kings 3, so this type of game definitely appeals to me. The gameplay itself is fun and pretty satisfying, though I found certain aspects a bit lacking. I understand you aren’t shooting for CK3 levels of complexity, but it still felt a bit hollow to me how little information I got about potential spouses: You get an age and potential inheritable traits, which is solid, but since these marriages are always chosen strategically it would be nice to know what benefits to us this union will bring. Is the other house prestigious? Rich? Is it a strong alliance? And so on. Or maybe none of this actually matters to the game… but it feels like it probably should.
