The result of the redesign that I was ranting about above was that tool I started a thread about here yesterday: Pangamebook
There is no support for anything like Twine or other automated stories, only generating static gamebooks (like an EPUB or PDF or RTF). Of course interactivity can still be added by oldschool methods such as asking the player to roll dice. 
I have no future plans for gamebookformat, and have not had in a long time. It might still be possible to use it and it is still available to download, but it is not something I think I will work on more (or use).
