Hi all - hope you don’t mind the plug (and please let me know if this isn’t the right place to put this) but I’ve released my first Twine gamebook on itch.io
Called “The Spellbook of Onarius” it’s based on the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks of the 80s and 90s, and is free to play and browser based.
Thanks to everyone on this forum who answered my questions about Twine while I was writing it, and to those who did some playthrough testing for me - much appreciated.
If you’d like to take a look, you can find it here.
This is lots of fun! I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of content and old-school RPG feel.
A few technical issues:
I think there’s a bug in the save system. I reached a checkpoint that allowed me to save the game (I used the default game name), and after some bad choice wanted to restart from that checkpoint, only to discover that it was overwritten with a newer version that I don’t remember ever saving (in which all my inventory was stolen).
During gameplay, there is no clear way to reach my previously saved games. I managed to do so by opening the story in a new tab, but that doesn’t seem like a good way to go about it.
I’ve also just released a twine-based classic-fantasy story, in case you’re interested to try it out and give some feedback:
