Based off the results of an earlier poll, I’m adding this rule to Spring Thing:
- Spring Thing asks authors to not enter games that use AI-generated art or which use AI-generated text. Using AI to modify hand-written text through tools like grammar-checking and translation may be allowed on a case by case basis. Games which have strong resemblance to AI-generated writing may be removed at the organizers’ discretion. Games that use live-service AI are also not allowed
This rule may be difficult to enforce, but it received overwhelming support in the poll, and I believe that it will support independent creators. Metaphorically, Spring Thing is an experimental craft fair, and AI tools are industrial tools.
The situation may evolve as ai tools change. I’ll keep an eye out for any negative feedback!
