I like how much this entire game is like the infamous Rumplestiltskin puzzle in King’s Quest except fun and solvable.
I found the first two endings but didn’t take great notes. As far as I can recall, I only found two special words: TWV and XKV. Are there more?
Edit: Never mind, figured it out!
Okay, I’m having trouble. I have what I believe are all three keys. I tried typing them one after another, but nothing happened.
The ones I have are: LKJ, MYE, APF. Do I need to be in a special spot or do I have one of them wrong?
Edit: NVM, it only works in one place.
Well that was fun.
I’m playing again but I can’t get any farther than I did on my first run, which only got me the rose. I’ve been looking at my 3-letter words for an hour and can’t see a pattern. Can I get a better clue?
Or a clue for the Store Room (… on the sign in the cellar).
Have you been to the Dormitory? If so, did you notice that (moderate spoiler) all the letters in the word that takes you there are part of the word Dormitory?
(I see Phil typing too so his hint might be better)
ffs. I was looking for patterns in their places in the alphabet and this went right over my head. That’s what happens when you commit absolutely to a faulty piece of logic and create your own rabbit holes.
Got it. Thanks!
“FFS” definitely should’ve been a command, along with “WTF,” “UGH,” and “JFC,” among others. Perhaps that will be left to the DLC!
Funnily enough I typed HMM at the start and that was the first command that didn’t get me an invalid length error… actually really helpful!
I am stuck midway through giving gems to Morlodius (which I assume will let me get the iris), any hints would be appreciated. I think I’ve got the diamond? but have no idea what to do with the Sphinx’s tail.
Other clues I’ve noted down are:
- “When you find golden things, name them.” - there are golden animal figurines in menagerie but not sure what to do from there
- “There is a weak rug on every ladder. To understand an effect, one must understand the case. If you wish to read in peace, go to the woods and sit by a book.” - ladders have rungs, not rugs, is that significant?
You’re on the right track generally.
Sphinx’s tail: you should have a pretty direct indication of what you’re meant to
do with the tail - it’s the inverse of something you would have heard people talking about earlier in the game. You’ll get direct feedback when you do it right, which will also indicate how you’re supposed to solve the rest of the gem puzzles.
Animals: you’re almost there on this one too! Have you tried naming some of them, according to the rules that govern all commands in this game?
Ladder rhyme: yes, that is very significant, and if you look that’s not the only line of the poem with a weird discrepancy - in fact there are three of them…
Also, based on where you are on the rest of the clues I don’t think you’ve actually got the diamond yet - so maybe keep that clue towards the front of your mind and reread the exact wording so you’re sure you know what it says in case you come across something similar later on.
Josh also wrote up invisiclues here!
Thank you all! I have reached the best ending. turns out my main issue was that I kept forgetting the Sphinx is LAF…
