Effort Prioritization Poll for IF-Octane

Hello!

I am still alive!

There’s a lot going on and I’m exhausted, so I’m rethinking a few things.

Primarily, I’ve been realizing that I might have prioritized the wrong parts of my plans for IF-Octane. I put audio support at the top, when that spot should have been occupied by the dynamic navigation structure for screen readers.

I’m considering leaving out game audio support for now, and focusing on the interface functionality, multi-mode world model, and working on Silverbacks before filling out audio capabilities. I’ll have the audio stuff outlined, so I won’t need to restructure anything later, but game audio won’t be in the first version of the engine.

I’m just checking in on community opinion with a poll:

  • I use a screen reader and would prefer game audio
  • I use a screen reader and have no opinion on game audio
  • I use a screen reader and do not want game audio
  • I don’t use a screen reader and would prefer game audio
  • I don’t use a screen reader and have no opinion on game audio
  • I don’t use a screen reader and do not want game audio

Depending on the results of this poll, I might also delay audio support until I Am Prey 1.0 is released, too.

Thank you for your time and patience, as I struggle with a number of life changes.

Would game audio be required for the game, or sounds that can be read in the text/are not important (e.g. footsteps, rustling, music)?

All audio would also be represented in the text, if it’s important for gameplay and awareness. It will be possible to play with all audio muted. Audio would just be an additional layer for engagement and/or immersion.
