Ectocomp2024 is live!

How long is the voting period normally?

It was a month last year. 25-ish days for 2021-2022, and 15 days before that
(according to the IFWiki).

Three-Four weeks would be nice for sure, instead of two.

Can we rate games that we tested?

I would very much enjoy having the full month to really bask in all these games.

Wow I’ve only had a chance to look at a couple but the standard seems really high this year

I’m not sure about the voting period. I think 2 weeks is probably too short given the number of games this year, not sure if things might slow down a lot by 4 weeks. I’d still think 3-4 weeks would be needed though

Question for people with games. If I find anything interfering with the gameplay itself I was going to point it out (I’m not doing full reviews, just comments on the games.) But if I find any very minor bugs though (like the wrong name being displayed, repeated text etc) especially in petite mort games where changes can’t be made until after the comp would this be helpful to know about? (I don’t want to seem overly critical especially given the speedgame timelimit, but not sure if this is something people who make games would like to know about or not for post game edits if needed.)

Also.

Fixed, it is one month, also, yes most of us prefer it that way.

Yes.

There are so many games, I think a month would be appropriate.

What a great Comp!

Just for those who are interested in trying parser games not in their native tongue, the IF Postcards are really helpful and list basic commands in each language (coupled with google translate for reading, this should let people who don’t know much of other languages to still play):
https://pr-if.org/doc/play-if-card/

Unfortunately, this does not account for special verbs that are hinted in gameplay.

Just FYI for everyone- I uploaded a new game file with a bug fix for Dark and Deep.

Last day to cast your votes!

I have updated the threshold hour so it fits most of the day in the USA. So now the voting end date is at 11:49 pm (EST), 8:49 pm (PST), and 5:49 (CET) for some European countries (an hour up or down). So, that way, the USA has more time today to wrap up votes. Anyway, check the countdown.

Here is a thread at Mastodon for how to contribute to less votes games:

Remember, you can access the games in voting need here:

And, this year the automatic results by itchio will be hidden, while I tabulate the tables at IFDB.

I hope you had a terrific time. (this year has been awesome, hasn’t it?), and I’m eager to read all those postmortems.

Regards!

Also, the Itchio app allows to download files from games (for those who are not available to download). The twine games, or HTML games, will run directly in your browser, which means that you can right-click and auto-translate to English XD The prose will not be perfect, but hey, you can play it!

That trick does not work directly for embedded games in itchio.

Of course, in parser games, you can just copy-paste text and feed it into the translator. Remember that in some interpreters CTRL-L gives access to the history of play in plain text.

Sounds interesting even though pareer usually isn’t our learners first choice, it seems worth advertising at our december workshop. Thanks Brian

Results are being tabulated.

They will be ready this evening (European time).

Thanks for your patience.

Itchio is seems to be failing today, so, I don’t know if the result will be ready today. I will keep you informed.

Kind regards.
