Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Storytelling -- a Free Online Course

Hi, All,

I hope you’re doing well.

I’m writing to invite you to participate in a free online course I’ll be offering, under the auspices of the Adult Education Division of the Pollard Memorial Library in Lowell, Massachusetts. The course begins on Tuesday, August 11, at 2:00 P.M. and will continue for the next ten weeks in one-hour sessions.

Here’s a description of the course:

Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Storytelling

What can one of the most acclaimed computer role-playing games teach us about storytelling? In this interactive ten-week course, we’ll explore Divinity: Original Sin 2 as both a game and a narrative, examining how its branching choices, reactive world, and turn-based mechanics compare with more traditional forms of storytelling.

Through a shared playthrough of the game’s opening chapters, participants will discuss topics including the history of classic computer RPGs, the relationship between Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Dungeons & Dragons, player agency, “breaking the game,” and the unique possibilities of long-form interactive narratives.

The course is limited to the first 10 participants and meets Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. EDT for ten weeks. No prior experience with Divinity: Original Sin 2 is required—just an interest in games, stories, and how the two intersect.

You can sign up for the course at:

Of course, if you’d like more information, just drop me an email at bdesilet@yahoo.com.

Have a great day.

Peace,

Do participants have to be based in the US or would the course be open to people in other countries?

Would be cool if you recorded the sessions and put them up on YouTube.

@desilets Curious, what made you choose Divinity: Original Sin 2 over other games? Not that I’m complaining.
