Choose Wisely Festival on Steam

Some might be interested to know that there’s an event called Choose Wisely Festival hosted by Studio Ephua running right now until December 15th. There’s also a dedicated page on Steam.

“Choose Wisely Festival is a global choice-based narrative games celebration, focusing on featuring the delightful craft of branching narratives!”

I found out about this via an Instagram ad for an upcoming “Disco-like” game called Esoteric Ebb. Looks intriguing. According to the FAQs, the dialogue was written in Ink.

Nice! I just added a bunch of stuff to my wishlist… which definitely wasn’t long enough already…

Poking around, I found that Choices That Matter: And the Sun Went Out is a part of the event; @Felicity_Banks is one of the writers. Has anyone spotted anyone else we know in there? (Or does anyone want to plug their own game that they’ve got in the event?)

There’s Mask of the Rose, a Fallen London thing which IFDB credits to Emily Short and James Chew. (There are a few other works which are also on IFDB, for what that’s worth.)

(I’m assuming DOLOS: Your Best Future is no relation to a similarly-named work by a well-known local, despite some similarity in theme.)

Hi!

This is actually my event. Happy to see it shared here.

There are actually a few disco-likes or CRPGs, including Glasshouse on Steam , Celestial Return, Save 20% on Lovely Lady RPG on Steam .

Expelled! on Steam from the Inkle team is also included.

Failbetter also takes part with their titles, including Mandrake which is featured in the Opening Showcase. For me, this was particularly lovely as Fallen London was one of the first games that introduced me to branching narrative and narrative depth in my youth.

In many ways, the whole festival is an elaborate wishlist, but I’m happy to have been exposed to so many wonderful narrative games by hosting it.

While I had nearly 600 games submitted, I still somehow feel I wasn’t able to make much people aware of the event before it went live, considering my limited reach and audience.

Thanks for organising the festival @babydev!

I’m glad I stumbled across it and was able to share quite early on!
