The BDB Project is pleased to announce the release of Caribbean Treasure. This is an adaptation of the Italian adventure Alan Simmons: Bucaneer by Bonaventura Di Bello. It was originally published on the cover tape of Viking, no. 8, September 1987 for the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64.
During your research into sunken galleons and lost treasures, you found a reference to the location of a pirate ship that had sunk off the coast of a small Caribbean island. With this knowledge, you rented a small yacht and sailed to the location during your summer vacation. You moored the yacht in a tranquil bay and started out by exploring the south coast of the island.
When you returned to the beach where you started, you noticed footprints in the sand that weren’t there before. Could the island be inhabited by savages?
In this game, you must search the island to explore its mysteries and discover its secrets in the hope of finding the Caribbean Treasure.
We had a large test team for this game, to whom we are very grateful. I think everyone considered it fairly easy, so it would be a good game to start with if you are new to the Bonaventura Di Bello adventures.
The game can be played online, downloaded as a z5 file to play in your favourite Z-code interpreter or downloaded as a disk image to play in selected retro computers.
Downloaded into the “Italian Oldschool” folder in my playlist. Now to move the Parsercomp BDB games in there too, and I have a nice new collection with more to add in the following years(?)
Of course, DL’d it (and the other two, and releasing three at time is purrfect…)
needless to say, as the rather unique comment on the general announcement shows (comparing Italian IF of yore with Italian battleships of yore I guess this beat every (un)conceivable wild comparision…) , I’ll refrain on reviewing, because no one wants reading a literally tripped down the memory lane commentary centered on 1980s Italy…
if you read my last post, you will realise that I’m not even sure on the very wisdom of it… exploring this memory lane has already surfaced a major RL plot twist, no doubt.
I looked far and wide to find an image for Caribbean Treasure. I wanted one that captured the feel of the game and a sunken galleon just felt right. Without giving too much away, there is actually a sunken galleon at the end of the game.
I short-listed about six images, but I really liked this one and I think I made the right choice. The colour scheme for the game page was chosen to suit the image.
I don’t know for sure, but I suspect it might be AI generated, as the artist is not credited. I try to avoid AI-generated images, so I hope no one takes offence at this.
