Hello IntFiction! I’m working on a game for IFComp, and I’m now looking for anyone interested in beta testing it (ideally folk who are interested in not just trying it, but giving constructive feedback). I’m hoping this is the best place to post this request!
It’s still not 100% complete yet (I still need to figure out the ending!), but it’s 90% done and ready for first-round testing.
The game is called ‘Scavs’ and is an ‘explore the map’ sci-fi game where you can choose your ‘Scavenger’ and then guide them around a map looking for resources. Once you’ve found enough, you just have to return them to the starting point to win the game.
It’s a choice game, made in Twine – it’s much more about exploration than solving puzzles, so if you prefer parser / puzzle games, this probably isn’t for you.
The game can probably be completed in a bit over an hour (ymmv!). There’s still plenty to do: fixing typos and bugs, improving the writing and adding some visual polish, so I’ll be working on it right till submission deadline. However, it could really do with some eyes on it so I know what to concentrate on. I’ll probably be looking for a few second-round testers in a week or so too.
Thanks guys - that’s hugely appreciated! I’m just making some updates - the game has finally got an ending! I’ll send you both private links, hopefully later tonight.
With a week to go till deadline, IFcomp is nearly upon us. The games are all nearly complete; we’re just polishing the rough edges now. However, even at this late stage, I could really do with some more feedback – especially on the final parts of the game, so I’m wondering if there’s time for one last round of playtesting?
As way of encouragement, here’s the current ‘blurb’. Let me know if you think you’ll have time – thanks!
Welcome Operator.
Your job is simple: Choose your Scavenger. Guide them across a desolate, alien planet. Help them find enough resources to justify an evac home.
You are their Operator. Yours is the only voice they can hear – they are depending on you to get them home. ‘System’ says resources are more important; the mission must always come first. So what kind of Operator will you be?
Choice-based interactive fiction with a parser-style open world. Estimated play time: 1.5 hours.
