Aster's IF Competition: Poetic Reviewing Edition (spoilers)

I wrote these reviews in rhyme
To amuse myself this time
I also wrote them in meter
To keep them short and sweeter
But if I don’t play any more
Five is still better than four

Gambler’s Quest

The quests are hard to parse
The implementing’s sparse
Each answer’s deeply hidden
In descriptions barely written
The dev says it’s a demo
But dev, please read the memo:
The IFComp guidelines say
As clearly as the day
If your game is to compete…
It should be complete

Live and Get Pie

I knew that this game would be wry
The moves are just “live” and “get pie”
The meter is strong
The joke’s not too long
But the enjambments just made me cry

Residual Income

The prose stirs the senses, its setting adds spice
The reveal at the end made me go play it twice
I don’t think I “got” it but that’s quite alright
A quick bite-sized game with a bite.

Quackpond

I’m always a sucker for games that pretend
To be social websites or chat apps with friends
They’re always way more than they seem at first sight
And quickly the game proved that guess to be right
Behind the façade of cute duckies and quacks
Bad abuse is revealed, the community cracks
The arc’s unsurprising, I wish there were more
In the end it’s all stuff I’ve seen play out before
(Also the art is cute as can be
It was the highlight for me)

Ass in the Woods

A whimsical, short adaptation
Where a nobody sees the creation
Of the B plot of a play
That we still know to this day
I wish the PC wasn’t “no one”
I think definition is more fun
Still it’s a cute little game
I had a good time all the same
I liked all the tricks with the text
Those were the parts I liked best
