Any way to make Bluesky's discover algorithm interesting?

Continuing the discussion from Is there an interactive fiction fanbase on Bluesky?:

I signed up for Bluesky and it’s nice seeing people I know, but one reason I’ve used Twitter so long is that it’s like walking into a DMV, where you see a bunch of random people you’d never bump into in your daily life.

Has anyone succeeded in making their ‘Discover’ feed entertaining? I assume that finding some good accounts to follow would make it more fun. Have any of you found any accounts that are interesting?

I’ll be honest, it’s hard to expose my low-brow tastes on here, but I like a lot of the stuff on Twitter other people hate, like the random viral videos and tiktoks that the bots post. I like comic artists (but not the ones where you have to click on a link to see the comic). I like people that post screenshots of reddit and tumblr posts with some kind of banal commentary.

I don’t as much like game design accounts whose main gimmick is ‘exposing’ or calling out people in the industry for their crimes. People whose main gimmick is trying to identify ‘the bad guys’ and framing themselves as really sweet and trying to rally others into a kind of vigilante justice really get on my nerves. There used to be a ton of accounts like that on Twitter.

Anyone have any suggestions for accounts to follow?

Do you like cats? I’ve been following a bunch of blogs that are run as if the cats were the ones posting, and it’s super cute seeing people’s pets.

Other than that, I follow some friendly acquaintances (we share a creative co-working group, I’m mostly just floating around to haunt the silent channel while tapping away on my writing as the odd man out, haha) who are comic/illustrative/general artists and post about their work. Riley, Nat, Kaylee, Jade, Michi, KBB, to name a few.

If you haven’t done it already, you can also try seeking out a few feeds that seem interesting/curated to your tastes, then adding them so they show up in your sidebar. I’ve had luck finding some cool accounts that way.

I found you have to give it a little time. If you follow all the people you know, eventually you’ll start getting random feeds if you search around and start liking some other things and following people who aren’t just from IF.

You can make your own feeds:

Just add people and tags to it.

Okay, I tried the suggestions above!

One issue is that I now have a lot of different feeds. Is there a ‘megafeed’ that collects them all or do I have to just pick one feed at a time?

Each feed is a world unto itself.
