3 New IFs online at Itch

I’ve dropped three of my short IFs on itch.io all centered around Alphabet City NY in the 1980s. I am mining this period for stories and vignettes in IF exploring format, interfaces and best practices. Insights and feedback are always welcome. You can find out more at https://jgesq.itch.io/

I’ve now made my Inform 7 submission for ParserComp live on Itch so it is available for the deadline. I didn’t want to miss out.
I’m interested in the more advanced games/stories that will be front runners - but it’s great to finish an I7 project. It’s a great start for me for longer and more involved works as well. I nailed some solid mechanics, got friendly with Extensions and am feeling more comfortable coding. Win-win as far as I am concerned.

Some great looking work, but i had problems getting things working. Here are my tests on browser desktop and mobile.

Where it says “no”, I got the dredded black screen problem.

Name Full Screen Windowed mobile
C Squat no yes no
Bomb it yes yes yes
Yummy No yes no
666 ? no(1) no

(1): Actually yes, but it took ages to load even on desktop. Mobile had no hope network too slow.

Thanks. I think I will eliminate the mobile aspect as I wasn’t sure it would implement properly. Thank you for taking the time to check. I shall review the other issues after this. :+1::heart:

I’ve updated all and eliminated mobile. 666 plays okay on my PC in window mode. Are you PC or Mac?
Clicking on the windowed 666 mode starts the visual novel. Is it not clear?

I was on windows. Will try your updates and report.

Thank you very much. 666 is loaded with music and art so maybe that’s the hang up? Appreciate your support.

For the browser playable games, only “Bomb it all” works on my mobile. The other games work on desktop in windowed mode, but they are awkward to play at that size as I can’t find any way to increase the view size.

“666” is not working very well at all. On windows browser it stays blank for some time and appears to never start unless i randomly click on it. Then i get the “new game” option. I was not able to get it going at all on mobile (perhaps preloading assets).

The timed text is truly annoying. I was hoping “message skip” was an option to fix that, but it didn’t make any difference. Otherwise the game looks interesting with some cool features.

I haven’t tried the parser games.

Here’s a new promo link to a quick trailer I cut promoting my latest IF work on Itch. https://jgesq.itch.io/tales-from-alphabet-city-trailer

Nice video. I might try filmora as I need to make a game trailer. Do you know if filmora can edit together and render shots of different framerates? this shouldn’t really happen, but it does.

I tried this on davinci. 24fps to 30fps. It worked but the free version is limited. You can see what the pro one does, and it’s good, but it watermarks. Nice way of showing what it can do though.

Yes, it does multiple frame rates and has a TON of built-in templates. I’ve used Adobe Premiere forever (and Mac’s editing system before they ruined it). For the $$ ($100 perpetual), it’s a great buy.

Hey thanks for the info. I might get a 1 year license. I tried it out in free mode and it did manage to deal with different frame-rates. I was impressed that it had optical flow.

I need to make some trailer videos soon and this might be a quicker way.
