Around 1978, I played a text based adventure game on what I assume was a PDP 10 system at University of California at Santa Cruz. This was not William Crowther’s “Colossal Cave Adventure” but similar to it. I remember a part of the game where the player was “down on the bayou” . The game always intrigued me, but I have never been able to find references to it. Does anyone have any familiarity with this game?
CASA and Renga in Blue pretty comprehensively document all known IF from the 1970s. None of these immediately look promising to me, but you could go through these lists to see if any sound familiar.
It’s quite possible this is a “lost” game. Colossal Caves was a computer sensation in the late 1970s and spawned a lot of small hobbyist projects.
Yeah, Jason’s blog (Renga in Blue) would probably be the best place to start as he has played through all the surviving games of that era. If it still exists, then Jason will have played it. But so many titles have been lost.
The Santa Cruz campus was very important to game development history, as that is where Rogue was birthed.
If you haven’t already done this, it may also be worth a try to do an IFDB search by publication year. For example, here’s a search for games published from 1970-1979: Search for Games
