Moondrop Isle -------- ---- (version: ???) === Shore by Carl Muckenhoupt === Moondrop Isle Inform 7 v10.1.2 / D Vorple v4.0.1 Type HELP and ABOUT for more information Wharf Once the main entrance to Moondrop Isle, this rickety wharf provides berths for at least a dozen ferries and small pleasure craft, which is probably more capacity than it ever needed. The only craft here now is your kayak, which you've pulled up onto the boards. A set of wooden stairs leads westward, onto the island. >w East Beach This white sand beach once served as an introduction to the island for guests. To the west, the famous Sanctuary Hotel is silhouetted against the starry sky, towering above a couple of smaller buildings. A wide boardwalk from the wharf splits here, leading to the northwest and south. A concrete stairway, partly buried in wind-blown sand, leads up to a platform supported by thick pillars, with a north-south rail beside it. Inset in the concrete is a sign and a metal door with a button built into it. >s East Beach The white sand beach continues north and south here. The boardwalk from the north curves inland to the southwest. You can see a white speckled guinea pig here. >s Southeast Beach The white sand beach continues to the north and southwest. A log lies in the sand. To the south, the half moon's reflection casts a long silvery path across the water. >w Mall Entrance The boardwalk from the northeast ends here at the grand entrance to a concrete building to the west, its sliding glass doors blocked by drifts of sand and flanked by rows of empty display windows. Faded blue letters mounted above the entrance read "GIBBOUS GROVE MALL". >s Southeast Beach The white sand beach continues to the northeast and southwest. A concrete wall adorned with an abstract mural curves around the northwest. To the south, the half moon's reflection casts a long silvery path across the water. You can see a tufted beige guinea pig here. >w Parking Lot Here we have an expanse of asphalt, neatly divided into parking spaces with stripes of faded paint, presumably constructed to serve the building to the north. It's not clear why anyone thought this was desirable, considering that there are no cars on the island, or roads for cars to drive on. A large set of sliding glass doors lead inside. >w Grassy Area An overgrown dirt path leads from east to north here, disappearing through a gap in a chain link fence. To the south, the grass gives way to white sand. === Moonlight Meadow Recreation Complex by Jason Love === Here, beneath the shadowed ghost of the old hotel, stands the site of Moondrop Isle's water park: a wreck of weeds and pavement, of bleached plastic and towering metal. South Entrance to the Water Park The water park stands before you beyond a fence to the north, its gate blocking your entry. A walkway encircles the park to the west and east, bounded on the inside by the fence and on the outside by a tiled stone wall. Behind you, the path extends south toward the shore. A blue sign over the path from the beach welcomes you to the park. To one side, a wood-walled cabana has lost the letters that once adorned it, but the discoloration underneath is still legible: "SHOWERS". The cabana has no door, so you could go inside. A sun-faded golf cart is parked on the opposite side of the fence here. >in Shower Cabana Interior Enough starlight comes through the dingy windows to see that the showers are mostly empty, but you'll need an actual light source if you want to be certain of that. A glint in the light from the doorway: there's a golf club, a putter, leaning against the wall here. >get putter Taken. >out South Entrance to the Water Park The water park rises before you beyond a fence to the north, its gate blocking your entry. North Entrance to the Water Park The water park looms before you beyond a fence to the south, its gate blocking your entry. A walkway encircles the park to the east and west, bounded on the inside by the fence and on the outside by a tiled stone wall. Behind you, the door north into the hotel awaits. A wide portico extends over the hotel's entrance to shelter four concrete picnic tables from any potential precipitation. There's no rain in sight, though. A rusty fire escape dangles from one side. Opposite the portico, a blue sign welcomes visitors to the water park. >open escape with putter The putter is long enough for you snag the bottom stair, and after a moment of resistance, the stairs drop with a horrible screech. The spring is broken; the stairs must have held in place from rust alone. >u Hotel Portico The cracked concrete of the portico makes for a good perch from which to view the water park. The fire escape leads back to ground level, while a window in the face of the hotel is broken open. === Sanctuary Hotel by Sarah Willson === Cafe You're standing in a shadowy room on what feels like a very soft carpet. With only the dim light shining through the broken window, you can tell you're in what was once a cafe or breakfast room. The silhouettes of chairs and tables loom around you. It's hard to make out anything in detail, but you do see a rectangular thing glinting on the wall across the room. >x thing As you stumble over to the glinting rectangle, you trip over something heavy on the floor. It feels like a flashlight. >get flashlight Taken. === Moonlight Meadow Recreation Complex by Jason Love === (You take a moment to recover the item you'd had when you'd last visited the recreation complex.) Wave-like patterns lining the walkways lead to other parts of the mall. A massive window in the west side of the hall gives a view of the sculpture garden in the mall's inner courtyard. The main thoroughfare leads north and south. There are storefronts to the northeast and southeast. The doors to the east lead back to the shore. The storefront to the northeast seems to still have its lights on. You can see a directory here. >turn flashlight on You switch on the flashlight. >s Byron's Books - Entrance Despite the main floor of this bookstore being packed to the brim with bookshelves, magazine racks, and checkout stands, the room is laid out with enough care that you find it surprisingly easy to move through. Exits to the north and west lead back out into other parts of the mall. A coffee shop is connected to the bookstore to the northeast. A large staircase in the middle of the room leads upstairs. Behind the staircase to the south is more of the bookstore. >u Byron's Books - Stacks Tall bookshelves welcome you to the second floor. Strewn throughout the many aisles here and there are a variety of lumpy beanbag chairs. The central staircase leads back down to the entrance of the store, and you can exit the bookstore to the west to go back to the main mall. A strange, brightly colored bookcase catches your eye. A big sack lies on the ground here. >open sack You undo the knot and open the sack. >get books cerberus book: Taken. gorgon book: Taken. griffon book: Taken. hydra book: Taken. minotaur book: Taken. pegasus book: Taken. sphinx book: Taken. >x bookcase This bizarre shelf has five alcoves painted in inviting colors, each only big enough to accommodate a single book for some reason. From left to right the alcoves are red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. >put cerberus in red The book clicks into place. >put minotaur in orange The book clicks into place. >put sphinx in yellow The book clicks into place. >put hydra in green The book clicks into place. >put pegasus in blue The book clicks into place. The colorful bookshelf slides over revealing a staircase leading up. >u Someone went to some trouble to bring these books here, so you decide to slip them back into the sack before you walk away. Maia Dome The pink walls of this perfectly round room exude a sense of comfort that you find soothing. There is a soft glow to everything here, and the air is slightly warm, but you do not mind. The ceiling is covered in strange patterns or glyphs - almost like constellations - though you do not recognize them. Stairs in the middle of the room go back down to the bookstore. >x glyphs Mesmerizing.
