The way to the living room is west. Felix sits on his bed. Ari and Shush are here. >x felix Felix is your father, and a pretty good one at that. He's got a mustache and a white shirt. >x ari Ari's been your best friend since you were a kid. She's got red hair and a casual outfit. She can be a little blunt, but usually doesn't mean any harm. >x shush A tall man who wears a distinctive purple cape, a black suit, a wide-brimmed hat, and a thick scarf around his neck. Shush's neutral expression makes him look like he's always in a bad mood, which is convenient because it's usually true. >i You are carrying: Felix's note [You can see topics for speaking to others by typing T or TOPICS]. >t General topics: Introduction - "Can you tell me about yourself?" You've known me, like, forever!", Ari answers. >say about shush "He's kind of hard to talk to, isn't he? If he doesn't want to respond, he just pulls up his cape and covers his face. It's a little annoying, actually." >say about ari That's not something you plan on discussing with Ari. >l Your House - Dad's Room Your dad's room resembles a standard workplace, practical and simplistic. The way to the living room is west. Felix sits on his bed. Ari and Shush are here. >w (Ari and Shush will follow you from to room to room. For brevity's sake, you won't be told this every time.) Your House - Living Room It's your house! You've lived here since you were a kid. You have tile flooring, some traditional furnishings, and a small CRT television. Your room is to the north, while your dad's room is to the east. You can exit the house to the south. >say about ari to shush "Ari... is the only one keeping us all together." Shush refuses to elaborate. >x tv It's a small CRT that you watch your favorite shows on. >turn on tv No time to watch TV, you've got a quest to do! >*i forgot my quest! You can exit the house to the south. >n Your House - Your Room "Nice room, Jimin!", Ari adds as you walk in. And yeah, you do like it. You've got a bed with blue sheets, a full bookshelf, and a big window is visible on the wall. >x bed A queen-sized bed. It's pretty comfortable. >x bookshelf A tall wooden bookshelf. The shelves are full of books of all lengths. On your bookshelf is Legends of the Ice Palace. >x legends A bold blue cover depicts a frozen palace up high on a mountain. A blurb says that this is a place not many have been. The back cover says that it was written by some guy named Ambrosius Krebs. >take it Taken. >read it You open the book to the first page and start reading. It says, "I, Ambrosius Krebs, am one of the few people to visit the Ice Palace of the Great Keep! Allow me to regale you with my travels!" >x window A big white window lets the sunlight in. Right now, it's closed. The weather's pretty nice today, but you like when it's raining, too. >s Your House - Living Room You've lived here since you were a kid. You have tile flooring, some traditional furnishings, and a small CRT television. Your room is to the north, while your dad's room is to the east. You can exit the house to the south. >s Town - Residential Area A row of cozy, if somewhat shoddy, houses are located here. Your house is to the north, while Ari's is northeast and Shush's is northwest. You can head back to town by going south. >nw Shush's House - Living Room You, Ari, and Shush all walk into Shush's living room. It's familiar to all three of you; you and Ari have been here before to talk to his family. They really aren't bad people. The floor's covered in a soft red carpet, and the walls are colored a shade of light red. A large wooden table stands in the middle, with chairs around it. Three doors lead to the east, west, and north; these are the residents' rooms. The exit is to the southeast. >e You turn to Shush. "Hey, is it alright if we go into your room?" He nods, but it's pretty subtle. That's as good of an answer as you'll get from him. You know, you've never actually been to Shush's room before. Ari's been, sure, but you've never asked her about it. Either way, the three of you step inside... Shush's House - Shush's Room A small stream of sunlight trickles in through a window with no curtains. The walls are barren besides two whitened blank spots, and the only bit of furnishings you can see are a wooden desk to the right and a mattress shoved into the corner of the room. It has the same feeling as a room that's just been moved into, ready for its owner to personalize it and make it theirs. But Shush has lived here for years. >x desk A blank wooden desk. There's nothing on the surface. You assume that whatever work Shush does here, it's quickly disposed of. >x mattress A hard, black mattress lays on the floor. No blankets, no pillows. Does Shush really sleep like this? You look at Shush with concern, as if for an answer. Predictably, you don't get one. You can't help but feel bad for the guy. >w Shush's House - Living Room The floor's covered in a soft red carpet, and the walls are colored a shade of light red. A large wooden table stands in the middle, with chairs around it. Three doors lead to the east, west, and north. The exit is to the southeast. >n Shush's House - Saucedo's Room Saucedo's room is the largest in the house. It has similar decor to the living room. Her bed is on the north end of the room, with a small side table next to it. >x table A side table made of white pine wood. The drawers are locked (and you're sure Saucedo wouldn't want you digging through them), but there are some portraits on top of the table. >x portraits Some framed photos of Saucedo and Plush. Shush is in some of them, too. >s Shush's House - Living Room The floor's covered in a soft red carpet, and the walls are colored a shade of light red. A large wooden table stands in the middle, with chairs around it. Three doors lead to the east, west, and north. The exit is to the southeast. >w Shush's House - Plush's Room This room has blue wallpaper with white polka-dots. A carpet beneath your feet feels like foam; it's shaped like multicolored puzzle pieces. There's a tiny bed in the corner, a large poster on the wall, and various toys strewn on the floor. >x bed A small bed with a white blanket. The pattern depicts a bunch of smiling suns. >e Shush's House - Living Room The floor's covered in a soft red carpet, and the walls are colored a shade of light red. Your house is to the north, while Ari's is northeast and Shush's is northwest. You can head back to town by going south. >s Town - East Square It's a pretty quiet town, but it's a nice place to live. A bulletin board is posted in the center of the square. Additionally, stone paths lead to various buildings. To the south, you can see some kind of megastore, and an armory is to the southwest. A few residential houses are found to the north. More buildings are off to the west, while going further east brings you to the town well. >x board People all over town post messages and requests here. A cluster of messages is written underneath. On the bulletin board are a poster, a flyer, and some messages. >read poster Nothing is written on the poster. >x poster A poster for the "Kash Bros. Emporium Once-In-A-Lifetime Sales Event." There's a comic on the other side, where Kash tells Cash about this amazing deal and the two of them implore you to come in and visit. Apparently you can take this poster in and get a "SUPER COOL BONUS". >x flyer A paper flyer that reads: "Noxie's Place: Part-time job available! Inquire within!" with a little heart symbol at the end. [New topic - Part-Time Job] >x messages The townspeople post anonymous messages here. Your eye drifts to a note that reads "Anyone know if Kash is single?" You're not sure, yourself. And that's just one of the many notes posted up. >t General topics: Introduction - "Can you tell me about yourself?" About Shush - What do you think of Shush? About Ari - What do you think of Ari? Emporium You can't even believe there's a place like this in town. Flourescent lights hum, today's pop music pipes through the speakers, and white hallways stretch as far as the eye can see, full of shelves stocking various miscellaneous items. You can get back to town through the north exit. As you try to adjust to the brightness, a man at the front desk speaks up. "Yo, you three! I'm Kash!", he says. "I'm here to serve you customer service!" There's another guy next to him, too. Kash zips and unzips his jacket a bit. Cash flips through a magazine. [New topic - About Cash] [New topic - About Kash] >x kash Kash Baylen is the kind of guy you think only exists in teen magazines: short blonde hair, wears a black leather jacket, dark sunglasses, beloved by all. You also don't think this is his real name. >x cash The other half of the "Bros.", but by no means less important. Cash Dynamite is slightly shorter than Kash, and has similar blonde hair, but wears flannel and a black fedora. >say about cash Shush just gives you a really intense death glare. He must NOT like these bros. >say about kash You hear Shush mutter something angrily: "...sellout." >l Town - Kash Bros. You can get back to town through the north exit. Cash and Kash are at the front desk. Kash briefly activates the infocom, and covers his ears at the resulting feedback. Cash lounges over by the checkout counter. Shush and Ari are here. >say about kash to ari Ari looks a little surprised. "He's kinda cute..." She snaps out of it. "Anyways! Jimin, I'm pretty sure your mom knew Kash when she was a kid. You should ask her about it!" >x me You're completely unmistakable. You're you! >l Town - Kash Bros. You question its purpose, considering modern plumbing has become widespread, but it's so easily accessible that it hardly matters. The town is back to the west. >x well A brown well with a triangular roof. There's a crank to lower and raise a bucket out of it. In the well is a bucket. >take bucket You turn the crank and lift the bucket up. It's full of water. >w The bucket's attached to a rope, so you have to let go of it before you travel any further. >drop it Dropped. >w Town - East Square It's a pretty quiet town, but it's a nice place to live. Going north takes you to a tavern, while a bakery of some sort is to the south. You can see more buildings to the east. The exit to the town is to the west. >s You're familiar with Saucedo's Bakery. You've stopped by a few times in the past. As you're about to step in, Shush speaks up: "Do we... need to go here?" "Aw, don't be scared!", Ari tells him. You wouldn't have interpreted his tone as "scared" -- more just "exhausted". And now you don't think he could be any less enthused about this. Saucedo's Bakery You can see a woman in a chef's hat working behind the counter; next to her is a boy frosting some cupcakes. Another woman in a red apron stands by, watching them work. As you're surveying the area, Ari's voice pipes up: "Guess who's here!?" Shush covers his face with his cape in anticipation. The three of them turn their heads to your group. "Look, Plush!", the woman in the hat says. "Your big brother's come to visit us!" Plush cheers and claps his hands. Shush nearly walks out of the bakery, but Ari stops him. Saucedo turns her attention to you, next. "Sorry about that, Jimin. What can I get you?" She slides a menu onto the counter. (JUST A NOTICE: you might want to talk to people with the ASK ABOUT command here because I haven't fully converted the dialogue system here) A handwritten menu is on the counter. You can also see Saucedo, Jassette, and Plush here. >x menu A fancy header reads "Saucedo's Bakery! Made Fresh, With Love". After that, it lists a few desserts: there's traditional Pies, Cakes, Cupcakes, and something called... "Beef Stars"? >t General topics: About Kash - What do you think of Kash Baylen? "It looks kind of like a toaster oven, but it can keep items warm forever!" Jassette speaks up: "You realize how much better warm baked goods taste than cold ones? Customers would be piling in!" Even Plush agrees, simply cheering "Warm food is yummy!" "Can't you re-heat the food?", Ari asks. Saucedo answers that it'd be impractical for every item in the bakery, and it never feels as fresh. "Oh, that makes sense! Where do we find it, anyways?", Ari asks. Saucedo tells you that it's in the Ice Palace, far away in the lands of the Great Keep. "An ice palace? That sounds nice!" Ari seems pretty enthused on the idea. "The way out is just outside of town, okay? If you need permission to leave, just show them this!" Saucedo takes out a pen and writes out a little note, then puts an official-looking seal on it. She hands it to you. "Good luck! I'm counting on you three!" You and Ari do a little fist bump. You look at Shush and realize that he hasn't said a word this entire time. >take note You already have that. >i You are carrying: Legends of the Ice Palace Felix's note >l Saucedo's Bakery Saucedo is the #1 baker in town, and her bakery shows it. Various sweets are on display in the window, there's a big brick oven ready for something to be roasted on, and beyond the counter are all sorts of baking implements and utensils. A handwritten menu is on the counter. Shush and Ari are here. You can also see Saucedo, Jassette, and Plush here. >x menu A fancy header reads "Saucedo's Bakery! Made Fresh, With Love". After that, it lists a few desserts: there's traditional Pies, Cakes, Cupcakes, and something called... "Beef Stars"? >x jassette Saucedo's assistant, who wears a red apron. There's no wonder why it's not called Jassette's Bakery; she's not that great of a cook. She does look after Plush from time to time, though. >x plush Saucedo's son and Shush's little brother: a very young boy raised to be the heir to the baking throne. >x saucedor You can't see any such thing. >x saucedo Shush and Plush's mother, who wears a white apron and one of those big chef's hats. She's settled down into her job and quite enjoys it. >n Town - West Square There are some important fixtures on the west side of town. Going north takes you to a tavern, while Saucedo's Bakery is to the south. You can see more buildings to the east. The exit to the town is to the west. >n The instant you walk into the place, the smell hits you and you can't help but gag. "What is that smell?", Ari asks. She doesn't go here much. It takes you a while, but you finally pin it down as whatever strange creation is being mixed behind the counter. Noxie's Place You've never been a fan of Noxie's Place. Every surface imaginable appears to be stained, scratched, or covered in various strange liquids. A rotting wooden table, with plastic chairs around it, is close to the entrance. Off to the northeast, you can see a crowd of seated customers, except they're not moving. The room is completely silent. A woman behind the counter is busy grabbing various ingredients and pouring them into a glass. You reasonably infer that this must be Noxie. >x noxie Noxie quickly turns around. "Oh my gosh!", she exclaims, although at exactly what, you can't be certain. "Hi, Jimin! Your mother's told me so much about you!" This comment baffles you, but you have a moment of realization. When you were a kid, your "Aunt Noxie" would come over and babysit every few weeks. It wasn't too bad, except when she tried cooking dinner. You have to wonder how badly you behaved that she's downright joyful to be spending the rest of her life in a place for sad adults. Noxie takes out a drink from behind her counter and sets it on the table. "Here you go! It's on the house!", she says in an overly cheerful tone. [New topic - About Noxie] [New topic - Tavern] [New topic - Noxie's Name] [New topic - Noxie's Customers] >say noxie's name It doesn't seem like Noxie will respond unless you go and have a drink, first. >drink drink There's no way out of this, is there? You lift the thing up to your mouth and try to ignore the smell. You glance at Ari, who's covering her eyes, and again at Noxie, who's squealing in excitement. Well, bottoms up! As it slithers down your throat, you notice that it has the consistency of tar. And now this bile-seawater-vodka(?) mix is in your stomach. It's unpleasant the whole way through. You feel like your insides need a nice, cleansing shower. Best not to think about it anymore. You slam the cup down on the counter. "I... I finished it." You wipe your mouth with your sleeve to clean up a bit of the residue. Noxie claps. "Yaaay! You can stay for a bit longer, can't you?" You probably can. It's not like she can do anything worse at this point. >say noxie's name "I don't mean to be rude, but... 'Noxie' is kind of an odd name." "Oh, like you're one to talk, 'Jimin'!", Ari reacts. Shush stays silent, but out of the corner of your eye, you can notice him tense up slightly. Noxie laughs. "You know, Jimin..." She leans in a bit. "My birth name was 'Noxford-Covarrubias'. When you were just" -- she raises her hand up to meet the counter's level -- "this high, you were talking to your mother, and you pointed at me and said 'Noxie'! Seems like your Aunt Noxie has gone a little off the deep end. [Removed topic - Noxie's Customers] >say part-time job You get no response.
