Going from left to right the segments are red, orange, yellow, blue, and green. A sad cat face is on the left near the red segment and a happy cat face is on the right near the green segment. The needle is currently pointing at the orange segment. >* OK gotta make friends with cat, per the blurb You seem to want to talk to someone, but I can't see whom. >x me You look just as you always have, except you have an odd contraption bound around your wrist. >i You are carrying: a catometer (Strapped to your wrist - The needle is currently pointing to the orange segment) >l On a Hill You are standing on a big hill overlooking a plush meadow. He has sent a multitude of men (one of which includes you!) out to help search for it in the hope that one will find it and return it to him. He has promised great reward for the first man to complete the task and return his prized artefact. So I tried to come up with a short story, with a beginning, a middle and an end, to attempt to get something of a workable game in inform7. We had recently acquired a kitten and my son was a little wary about stroking it. It gave me the idea of a game in which. to complete it, you needed to befriend a cat. And so, "The Sacred Shovel of Athenia" was born. It's not a very long game and the puzzles are fairly simple, but it is a fully working game, and my son enjoyed playing it. P.S. He is also happy to play with our cat now (who is no longer a kitten anymore) but it does sometimes swipe at you if he is not wanting attention (the cat, that is; not my son!) -- AG Please press SPACE to continue. How do I get the coin from the well > How do I kill the ogre? Introduction to "The Sacred Shovel of Athenia" About "The Sacred Shovel of Athenia" > Hints Top of a Hill You have reached the summit of a jagged hill. In the distance to the north you can see the top of a grand castle, rising through some low lying clouds. Below is a craggy section leading down to the south. A lesser trodden pathway can be seen to the west heading to a quaint village. Your friend the cat is here, looking worried. An ogre is ducking and diving around the jagged hill, like a bad impression of Muhammad Ali. Every now and then he staggers, seemingly off-balance. Stuck in the ground is a tall sign post. It points north, south and west. EXITS ARE: north, south, west, and down. >* doesn't seem to work I don't know the verb "*" . >hit ogre with sword You have already managed to knock the ogre off-balance, perhaps you should try another manoeuvre, something a bit heavier maybe? >take shovel The ogre snarls and moves the shovel away from your grasp. >hit shovel with sword You pull back the sword and heave it up at the shovel. The ogre is still unbalanced by the initial blow of your sword and doesn't manage to pull the shovel away in time. It flies from his hands and lands with a thud on the ground. >take shovel It really is HEAVY, much more so than the sword. You now have the scared shovel of Athenia once again. >dig (The jagged hill) (with the shovel) It's not long before you have dug a fairly small hole in the hill. The ogre is busy prancing about like a boxer to pay much attention to you. >hit ogre with shovel You catch him full in the face and he goes down like a sack of potatoes. He lands on his nose which sticks into a small hole. He sits up, rubs his nose and then rises back to a boxing pose again. >dig (The jagged hill) (with the shovel) You dig a little bit more dirt from the hole, still the ogre is not paying much attention. >g (The jagged hill) (with the shovel) You dig a little bit more dirt from the hole, still the ogre is not paying much attention. >g (The jagged hill) (with the shovel) You now have an ogre sized hole in the ground. >hit ogre with shovel You catch him full in the face and he goes down like a sack of potatoes. He lands with an almighty crash, falling in an ogre sized hole that someone has dug in the ground. He smashes his head on a jagged rock, that was sticking out of the mud in the hole, and lies there, still and unmoving. >dig (The jagged hill) (with the shovel) You don't need to dig it any deeper! >n Aren't you forgetting someone? >take cat (the black and white cat) You gently pick up the worried cat and stroke him. He seems more than pleased. >n You head down the jagged hill and head north towards the grand castle. Eventually you reach the castle gates and hear a fanfare of trumpets (a bit over the top you think). The king comes out to greet you. He takes the shovel and thanks you (you were expecting a bit more of a reward frankly!). You leave the castle and head home to tender the cat, who already is looking a whole lot happier. He purrs at you and nuzzles his head into your arms. *** THE END - And they both lived happily ever after. *** Would you like to RESTART, RESTORE a saved game, QUIT, or UNDO the last command? > wuit Please give one of the answers above.
