You can't >l Pinned to the altar From the light, it's only a little before noon. At this time, you would hear joyous songs and thoughtful prayers as people of faith would've come to this very place. But now, only the gust of the wind remains. The once full pews are nothing more than rotting pieces of furniture, as the ceiling, once donning intricate hand-painted frescos, have now peeled and crumbled. The barren wasteland, which was a place of faith, has been relegated to the rats and mites. In front of you, resting on the steps, is a leather-bound book, a torn piece of parchment, and a green ring. >x me You lay, pinned to the altar. Blood covers your whole body. >x pews Some have crumbled and became nothing more than homes for termites. >x ceiling It's no longer a place for protection. The hole it has invites nature to its fullest. >x hole that area's a bit blurry. You can't make anything out. >x rats that area's a bit blurry. You can't make anything out. >x frescos They looked beautiful once upon a time. Now their fairytale has ended. >x steps Small and broken. >x book A book that you've seen since your days as a child. The memories of your school, your friends, and your family flood back to you. Your eyes, still burning from the light, become wet. >x parchment It wasn't torn before. It was whole when it arrived at your doorstep. >x ring A green ring lay on the steps. Flashes of the ritual goes through your mind. >x ritual The ritual that birthed the ring. It was Abigail who told you about it just before she left the school. After how many years, you saw her, in a garden. >x abigail Abigail was able to make beautiful art that mixed colors so well that it put everyone else to shame. She was also good at just about everything the school offered. But she left the school--you didn't why. >x garden The garden grew wildflowers and vegetations. A scene fit for a painting, especially when Abigail was standing by the yellow Loloiws, picking them. >x school Your school was a place you lived in for more than half your life. You remember the first time you saw the looming gate of the enormous structure. The air in your chest finally leaves your body. The blood comes out of your mouth and nose as your lungs begin to close up. You try and move, but your limbs lay dead by your side. Blood paints the floor crimson as the bright light grows cold. *** You've died *** Would you like to RESTART, RESTORE a saved game, QUIT, UNDO the last command or POSTSCRIPT? > postscript Hello. You might be a bit confused about what you just played, and I can't blame you. I'm going to do a little bit of explaining the game's goal, influences, and general design. I won't be going into the actual contents of the game. Before I get started, I would just like to add this, this is the only ending to the game. There are no ways to escape your death. You stop playing when you don't want to play anymore. I was inspired by limited parser games like Lime Ergot and Toby's Nose and wanted to make a game where the player only uses one verb. I also saw it as a more realistic way to get a game out in under 4 hours. With that idea, I thought of a game where the player only uses the EXAMINE verb, like Lime Ergot, but I didn't want to completely copy it. Then I thought of the concept of going through your thoughts as a mechanic. From there, I thought of the dying part, the disjointed style to try and capture the rapid thoughts our minds have, and set the game on a time limit so that it had an end. Because of this, the game might be hard to wrap one's head around, but I like to think it's part of the fun. Trying to think about how all the pieces fit together and how they connect. Whatever you can think of is equally right to what I think and what anyone else thinks. This game is very untested, and I will likely make a newer version when the competition ends. Either way, I would just like to thank you for playing this game. I hope you stay safe and enjoy the games!
