The voice says, "Good, planet creature! Understanding is positive. To explain, we have abducted you! Welcome to our vessel!" A portion of one wall hums and becomes transparent, creating a thick window behind which stand three beings, each about two feet tall. It would be evident to any Earthling that they are space aliens. They are identically shaped, but very different in color: one is royal purple, another is pink-orange, and the third is kind of olive drab. They look somehow both blobby and rigid. Each has a single large eye. They have some other discolored features that could be faces, or anything else, really. Whether they are friendly, hostile, both, or neither, you can't tell. The purple alien, evidently the source of the first voice, continues: "Do not be terrorized, strange planet creature. We are only going to test your intelligence gland. I am called Jopho. The pinkish one is Zona, and the other one is Klanku." The bird and the tulip vanish. >EXAMINE JOPHO Jopho is a two-foot-tall purple alien with one large eye. You feel a strong jerk, and you stumble. The aliens slide sideways. "Strange," says Jopho. >TOUCH PEAR You touch the pear. It disappears, and a fork appears. You hear an even louder thump, followed by a crunch. The light gets very dim. You feel a strange weightlessness for a few moments, and then you black out. Press SPACE to continue. Your consciousness returns slowly. You realize you are still in the same chamber, but you're lying on the floor, and your shoulder hurts. You climb to your feet. The light is dim, but you can see that the window has reverted to an outline, and everything else has vanished. It's eerily quiet. A moment later Zona rotates slowly into what must be a standing position. It looks at you. It whispers, "The planet creature may not be hostile. Is it helpful? This is difficult to believe. But it has an intelligence gland. It used the robot." It seems to ponder this question for a few moments. Then it says out loud, "I believe that you are a helpful planet creature. I am happy that you did not kill me. But it is a surprise, because most planet creatures are dangerous. The other testers will be scared. I must shout and tell them." Zona glides slowly onto the pad, which begins to glow. The alien starts to speak, and you suddenly hear a loud, distorted cacophony that echoes through the nearby rooms. Zona slowly glides off again. "Something is wrong. The shouter is wild." >LOOK Yellow Room This is a square room with pale yellow walls. It seems to be the observation room from which the aliens tested you.
