My name is Rick and I’m here to indulge my geeky/nerdy side and attempt to create a work of Interactive Fiction!
A little about me:
- I have extremely minimal experience with coding (I understand many concepts, but don’t ask me to put them into practice!)
- I love reading and always been fascinated with things like CYOA and old-school games like Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
- I enjoy creative writing and while I’ve started several projects in the past, I’ve finished all of none for one reason or another, but mostly because I rapidly became unable to keep track of everything!
While secretly deep down, part of me has always wanted to create a game of some sort, I lack the ability to translate things I see in my head into visual elements (i.e. I cannot draw for beans… even my stick figure people look horrendous!) nor do I have the patience to practice and get any better. So what kind of games can one seriously-artistically–challenged girl create? One that does not require pictures!
It took me a very long time to come up with an idea for a story that I consider interesting enough to try an flesh out until about a year ago – an adventure set in the world of my favorite game, Fallout.
I do not plan on making the finished work available for public consumption, for obvious reasons. I do not claim any ownership or entitlement to anything licensed or owned by Bethesda. I simply have a fan-made story set in their universe.
But why create something and not intend to share it?
For me, it’s about proving to myself that I can… and it gives me something to work on between calls at work!
I’ve decided to use Inform 7 to code in, mostly because I find it the easiest to understand. That said, I am 1000% a total noob when it comes to Inform and I already know I’ll have questions. Which is why I joined this community! Y’all seem like a helpful and knowledgeable bunch of folks and I hope to be able to learn all that I can from you!
Thanks very much for having me!
