Got my new earphones last night. Different style(still ear clips, but the old ones had speakers that rest over the ear canal while these are more like earbuds(but not earplug earbuds, thank Edison, earplug earbuds are painful and tend to lead to me getting ear infections). Very comfortable for normal wear, but wearing them with my earmuffs pushes the earbud against the dimple in the ear next to the ear canal in a way that’s painful after a coouple of hours and muffles the sound, but fortunately, the earclip is large enoough I caninsert the clip between the rubber seal of the earmuffs and the sponge in the earmuff cup in a way that holds the earbud away from my ear, but still positioned so I can hear well and when I take the earmuffs off, the earphoones stay in place in the earmuffs instead of falling out without the clip holding them on my ear. A bit more hassle going between listening with just the earphones to listening with the earmuffs to block loud background noise, but it’s working out and if nothing goes wrong in the next week-and-a-half, I’ll be ordering a spare pair or two when I get paid.

Nothing positive or neutral is happening. The title of this thread has always put me off contributing because I can never think of anything fitting that description.
I really wanted to enter Ink Jam this year, but a) it is only nine days long, b) it happens to fall during my first week back at work after the summer break and c) I can’t think straight because I am so depressed about climate change.
I live right next to Epping Forest in London and the trees are dying. There is no birdsong anymore other than the ubiquitous ring-necked parakeets. The water in Eagle Pond is really low and the swans seem listless.
It has not rained in London since June 23rd. This summer we have had 16 consecutive days over 30°C. On July 22nd it hit 40°C, that’s 104°F. Nowhere in London has air conditioning, because the average summer temperature in London when I was young was 15°C, or 59°F. We’ve just never needed it until recently.
This is it, the beginning of the end, folks. I think it will really hit home when the harvests fail and the food shortages begin. Except riots, looting, martial law, and the rest.
And still they are drilling for oil and building AI data centres nobody needs or wants.
So, yeah, I’m struggling to think of funny interactive stories at the moment. Sorry.
Edit: Ugh. That was a horribly whiny post, sorry! Other people got it a lot worse. I’m watching Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny for the first time and it’s cheering me up a bit.

Not precisely a positive thing: the main HD here seems (in opinion of its BIOS diagnostic…) next to broke; I’m skeptical (FUD, planned obsolescence and all that…) but what matters is backed up, so no issue, save that a good chunk of my computing time is invested in analysing the issue.
This to say also that if I’m silent during late august/early september, no worries, because the computer shop is closed for the summer (In Italy many shops closes for vacation (“ferie estive”) for at least a forthnight during August)

I compiled a custom version of Chocolate Doom so I can play my favorite community maps on my handheld! 
Turns out, they’re vanilla-compatible, except for the sheer quantity of walls, so raising the array sizes in the source code is all that’s needed to get it working!

Never actually played any version of Doom… but Modern Vintage Gamer on YouTube recently did a series on porting Doom to NeoGeo… first claiming it was impossible and then admitting he had been proven wrong:
As for something positive of my own, About a week ago, my portable AC gave up the ghost(I hear a pop and it when from working but rattling loud enough I needed hearing protection to hear my screen reader at reasonable volume t being nearly silent and putting out no air. When I opened it up, I discovered about half the blades of the exhaust fan had broken off and jammed things up, cleared the debris but a test power on revealled airflow was hampered and the unbalanced fan caused such a terrible wobble I would be afraid of the unit wobbling its way off the cabinet the AC sat on)… That’s not the positive, but it’s background to make the positive make sense.
Anyways, I noticed a few days ago that the air coming through the AC exhaust port sitting in my window is cooler than the air in the room, and last night, I realized that, by flipping around the exhaust hose, the intact end originally attached to the exhaust port on the Ac will stay in the window port without needing duct tape that needs to be reapplied regularly, and the end where the hose split and will no longer stay attached to a port properly can be hung down to direct the breeze I get through the window port down at me. It’s not perfect, but this is the most comfortable my bedroom has been without active AC with it being 87F outside ever and I haven’t been tempted to open my bedroom door to let ACd air from the rest of the trailer in since setting the hose up like this last night… Granted, Alexa is reporting the humidity at 42%, which I’m pretty sure is unusually low for these parts. Still, if this proves enough to get me through the rest of the summer without buying a new AC, that’s a good thing, since a new AC is something I can’t afford without taking on more debt.

I played Quake back when I was a kid, but I wasn’t very good at it, lol. I also think I tried Duke Nukem 3D but didn’t get very far. XD
I guess FPSes were just a bit tougher to do when they were keyboard-only. Before you could use the mouse to aim and shoot.

I used to play a lot of DOOM 1 and 2, Heretic, and Hexen. I had a couple friends that I would play over modem, especially in Hexen. It was practically impossible to reach me by phone during the early to mid 90s due to this (according to my mother).

Actually, I haven’t played that many first person shooters in general… I think Turok 2 on N64 was my first M-rated game and I don’t think I ever beat the first level and only saw later parts of the game via the stage select cheat, Though that might have been a combination of very long levels, rare save points and I think the game might have needed a controller pak to savv and I never had a controller pak… and I started Metroid Prime on Gamecube, but I don’t think I ever got very far beyond the intro level before getting distracted with other games… I think the closest I’ve come to beating an FPS game might be the sonic Adventure games, specifically the GameCube ports, and even then, the shooting part of those games are third person shooters, Gamma has one of the shorter stories in SA1 and Tails and Eggman only make up about a third of SA2.

I have no idea how I ever managed to play Half-Life 1, 2, 2ep1 and 2ep2. I watched a playthrough of them on youtube a while ago and I thought, man, I wouldn’t have the patience for this nowadays. I’d probably get bored by all the wandering around and shooting, lol.

Half-Life 1 is still super fun to me, but I recently tried to replay Half-Life 2, and didn’t realize I forgot how unbelievably scuffed the player collisions and movement are. Infuriating.
Fun fact! Apparently mouse aim was a thing since Doom, but a lot of people just didn’t go for it!
Honestly, other than text adventures, browser games from the shockwave/flash era, and emulating consoles from last century, I’ve never been much of a PC gamer and am more familiar with gamepad controls when it comes to mainstream video games.
Anyways, found an adaptor to convert a cable with a male USB-C plug on the end to having a male micro-B port, letting me connect a spare keyboard I have that requires a cable and isn’t hardwired. Since my wireless keyboard has been having issues for the last week or two(the o key not work, requiring me to keep o on my clpi board and do a ctrl+V whenever I type an o, and when the o key does work, commands that use it don’t work and I have totoggle caps lock to get a capital O… also my f5 and f6 keys weren’t working, half the time fn+right ctrl was failing to bring up context menus, crtl+alt+Fx to switch from the GUI to the linux consoles was working right, this is a godsend, especially since replacing the malfunctioning keyboard with the same model is too expensive for my budget and it’s hard to be sure about what one is getting when ordering blind and I’ve had bad experience with keyboard purchases in the past)… anyways, aside from the usb cable I’m using being maybe a foot shorter than what would be ideal and it also being the cable I use to charge my phone and my portable media player, my only complaint is that it seems to lack a context menu button and caps lock+8 to have Orca simulate a right mouse click is a bit cumbersome, but still, good enough to let me put off buying a new keyboard and a couple of new USB cables are probably much cheaper than a new keyboard… Also, it’s quite possible my F6 key has been busted for months since not only is ctrl+alt+f5 working again, but ctrl+alt+f6 is actually giving me access to tty 6, which I previously thought was inaccessible due to configuration quirks but now realize might have been inaccessible due to busted f6 key and not thinking to try alt+right arrow to step from tty5 to tty6 until I had to use alt+right arrow to access tty 5 thanks to busted f5 key.
Also, ditalini has joined rotini in the buck-24 per box category, but I was able to find shells at the 98 cent price point.

Probably! It was a DOS game, so you only really needed a keyboard to use your computer!
