What's one positive/neutral thing that's happened today?

It’s the weekend! Also saw multiple planes fly overhead!

Finished the fourth stripe of my beaded candy sack last night. Really starting to think I might stop at six stripes instead of the originally planned 12, and perhaps make a pair of smaller pouches to match.

Taking it easy after I got sick last week and had to stay with my parents. Published the new Groovy Times album on bandcamp, I’m happy with how it was finished much faster than the last one, lol. I’m definitely taking a breather before diving into another musical project. I should get back to writing more of my Twine project. XD

Finished the fifth stripe last night an the sixth earlier this evening. Need to buy more beads to continue working on it, which I’ll probably put off to put them in the same order as the order I place for my birthday(which is on the 14th). Honestly, didn’t expect it to go this swiftly, but apparently the cylindrical shape works well for quick building.

Working on this also has me thinking of how to make beaded bags with multiple pockets and flaps.

Outside of IF, I’m creating songs for a soundtrack, in a way that I have to write sheet music. It’s more fun than I thought!

Do you use MuseScore to write your sheet music?

Yeah! It works really well and I’m glad I switched to it sooner rather than later.

As I was making the body of my beaded candy sack, it accoured to me that, for a band circumfrence that’s a multiple of 4 beads, I could stitch up opposite ends of the cylinder at right angles to each other. using some of the purple and pink mix I had leftover from my beaded scarf, I made a tetrahedron from a cylinder that’s 32 beads around and 9.5 beads tall(half of the columns are 9 beads, the other half are 10 beads, turns out this is required to ensure proper alignment of the beads that protrude at the open ends of the cylnder. Will probably make two more tetrahedra using the leftover red-orange-yellow and blue-green mixes.

Woo, organic farm inspection complete for another year! We lost my dad suddenly back in January so the farm has been a mess this year but we didn’t screw up the documentation/regulatory compliance stuff worse than usual. Or at least not enough to get seriously yelled at. So that’s a relief.

When I stepped on the scale for the first time today, it read 299.8. Thinking I misheard it and because I always do multiple weighings because I don’t trust this beat up old thing and the uneven floors in this decrepet tin can to give consistant readings, I stepped on it again and got a second 299.8… then a downer as the third reading was 302.x and the next three readings were in the 300.x to 301.x range. So, haven’t quite broken the 300 pound barrier, but I’m damn close… Which is a pretty big milestone considering I’m pretty sure my father(who died in May of 2017) was still alive the last time I was sub 300… After 300, the next big milestones for me are 290, marking 100 pounds lost since Christmas of 2023 when my current weight loss efforts began and 275, the weight class I was in when I wrestled in highschool prior to being disqualified for my weight(they used to have a 305 or 315 weight class, but they got rid of it because too many were deliberately putting on excess pounds to get into that top weight class because the way things were structured, just fielding a wrestler in every weight class gave a school an unfair advantage in the team rankings*, 18-year-old me just couldn’t keep his weight under the limit for the 275 weight class).

*I attended aSchool for the Blind and Visually Impaired for most of my K-12 education and we competed against 5 other such schools along the East Coast in annual Wrestling tournaments… if you were the only rep for a weight class, you automatically won gold and your school got the points for gold in that weight class, if there were two reps in a weight class, there would be one match for that class, 3 reps, 1 semi and a final, 4 repes, 2 semis, a final, and a 3rd place match, a 5 or 6th competitor would add a quarterfinal match and a loser’s bracket to determine a total ranking… and I believe even coming in 6th in your class earned your school points while a school got nothing if they didn’t have a wrestler for a weight class. Each school was only allowed one wrestler per class, so if they had two people in the same class and no one for the class above or below, the incentive was for the wrestler closer to a weight class boundary to either gain weight to go up a class or lose weight to go down a class instead of them having to compete for a spot at the tournament. And 275 was already the fat kid weight class for the most part(though the guy who won gold in 275 both years I participated, who was also the only guy I ever lost to in competition, was the closest any of the schools had to a body builder type.

Will I be finding it in my scientific/academic bookshop in Belgium?

Maybe? I think you might definitely be finding it in a good Belgian bookshop – Boom certainly targets both Dutch and Flemish readers. I also have reasons to believe that there will be a review appearing in De Standaard at some point.

Talking about good things, I was interviewed about my book for 90 minutes (well, minus music and the news) on Dutch national radio! Only somewhat bad thing about it… it was from 2am to 3:30am. Live. I didn’t get to sleep much. But apparently they have about 60k listeners, and people did phone in with questions. It was really cool.

I’ll keep my eyes peeled.

Stepped on the scale a few minutes ago and got unusually consistent readings: 300.0 4 times in a row

Last night I bought my tickets to LightBox Expo 2025! I’ve never been to an art expo before, so I’m really excited.

Ran out of sugar last night, so had to place the order for ingredients to spoil myself for my birthday a day early. Balancing desire against budget, I decided on a bag of frozen meatballs to liven up my rotini and rice for the next few days and some roma tomatoes, bell pepper, yellow onions, Vlasic pickles(I usually go for Mount Olive or store brand because they’re cheaper, but I splurged) shredded cheese, salsa, and salsa con queso(and I just realized I forgot to order sour cream) to make side salads to go with my lunch for today, tomorrow, and the day after, which will leave me with onion for even longer and cheese to add to my pasta and rice… On the sweet side, I bought myself a small, strawberry cheesecake, a big box of frozen waffles, and cream cheese, lemon, and strawberry cake frosting to spread on the waffles… probably going to gain a few pounds over the next few days, but dag nabit, if there’s any time to over indulge one’s sweet tooth, it’s their birthday, and since it’s highly unlikely anyone is going to throw me a party or buy me anything nice, I might as well spoil myself best as my means will allow. Besides, it’s been years since I last indulged in eating cake frosting straight out of the container.

Also ordered the beads to finish my beaded candy sack and make matching mini pouches and actually got all the beads I ordered instead of some going out of stock between ordering and fulfillment.

Also, 2 for 3 on store brand tea being just as good as the name brand I’ve been drinking(the earl grey was no worse best I can tell, and the store brand apple cinnamon herbal is a new favorite without having name brand to compare to) I’ll try the store brand peppermint with tonight’s supper, but so far, it’s looking like I’ll be fully going store brand when I do my next tea run in a few months(after cutting my tea consumption earlier this year to cut sugar consumption, I’m using two tea bags a day, fully loaded my tea chest holds 160 packeted tea bags, so I have to restock every 80 days… though some of the store brand teas only com in 40 count boxes instead of the 20 count boxes I’m used to, so I’m hoping things will line up so I can restock half of those each time I restock.

One negative, one of my housemates has decided to get rid of the dresser that stands in the corner of our kitchen, a dresser that I’ve been using as a secondary work surface and which has many of my crafting supplies stack atop it, supplies I now have to find a new place for… fortunately, I have ideas that might work for relocating most of it, but it’s annoying and the housemate in question is the kind of person that once they’ve made a decision, there’s no talking them out of it and trying just invariably leads to a pointless argument.

It’s my birthday!

Instead of maintaining the side salad idea, I just dumped my taco seasoned rotini and microwaved meatballs on top of the salad for lunch today to excellent results.
