why changing an entire case when the problem was simply the button switch ???

I’m guessing a case of buying a replacement case was easier than finding a replacement button that is compatible with the existing case… and if the manufacturers had their way, even buying the replacement case instead of replacing the whole system would have been too much hassle. Remember, repair culture, while good for the consumer and good for the environment, is a thousand paper cuts to the corporations, and the corporations are the ones who control the markets and are mostly unwilling to sacrifice of themselves for the greater good and totally willing to sacrifice others for their own gain.
One reason every country needs a consumer bill of rights aside, the unseasonably nice weather continues. I even had to turn off my AC for a few hours yesterday due to ice on the condenser(or was it the evaporater?) and while my room was warmer than I like while the AC was defrosting, it wasn’t uncomfortably so and I didn’t feel the need to remove my top.
I’m not sure I could repair the power button myself. I was worried about the cause of the power button malfunction. The computer powered on after 2, later 5 presses. I was sure, that computer is in full working order. So I bought the chassis. Probably the warranty on previous chassis didn’t expired, but I think I chose the least problematic solution. Additionally new case is very solid, has some nice properties, and was delivered in the original producer’s box. It didn’t cost me much as well.
For a second there I thought you were still talking about centipedes.
…hmmm… Texas Centipede Rodeo…
Texas Centipede Rodeo…
Only in Texas - Every small town in Texas has two places:
I dearly hope we get Texas Centipede Rodeo in this year’s ECTOCOMP.
Sadly, having never even passed through Texas, I am not the person to write it.
Texas Centipede Rodeo - Its a thought.
Ectocomp is my all time favorite comp!
PS. WIP: You heard it here first.
I don’t know about Texas Centipedes, but I could totally imagine 10-foot centipedes replacing bulls in Martian Rodeos if Futurama ever did a rodeo episode… I mean, in Futurama, Mars is often depicted as the 31st Century version of the Western US, the native Martians are coded as native Americans, Amy’s parents, while ethically coded as Chinese are occupationally coded as rich cattle ranchers, cows are extinct in the 31st century and have been replaced with giant bugs that look like cow printed beetles, They could just use the giant beetle cows as a replacement for bulls, but centipedes would arguably work better for the idea of taming a dangerous, nearly wild beast for sport.
Though on the note of memetic wildlife, I’m not sure which is scarier… a Texan Centipede or an Australian Centipede.
Well, the Texan Centipede regularly carries a firearm, so unless the Australian Centipede spits acid, I’d say I’m more afraid of the Texan Centipede.
For legal reasons, this is a joke.
This Texan Centipede (harris-centipedae) subspecies only has fire in its pincher. No fire in any of its 100 arms. → No firearms. Whew!

Turns out my shoulder pain is neither a torn rotator cuff nor arthritis; just an inflammation of the rotator cuff. Nothing a steroid injection can’t solve. Best thing is that solving this problem might solve my persistent fatigue problem. You’ll notice my IFComp entry just ends in the mid
You ever gather a fistful of millipedes?
I have.
It probably came out to at least 10 cubic centimeters of solid millipede.
I should have taken a photo, but some of them panic-sprayed on their way into the jar, and the smell was almost enough to knock me out.
It smells like someone concentrated a mixture of urine and mint.
Most of the millipedes were moving as couples, and I noticed that when I moved them into the jar, they very rarely scattered. They would instead form two concentric circles, where the inner millipede formed a protective core of armor for the outer millipede to brace against to protect its underside.
There were only two instances out of maybe 50 – in which I failed to gracefully put them in the jar, and wound up just pushing them across smooth concrete for a few centimeters – where the millipedes decided that maybe scattering was worth trying.
This was an adventurous morning.
I finally found some time to make progress on a few of my coding projects.
My zcode interpreter now has built-in mapping.
Not auto-mapping, but revealing sections of a bespoke map as you play. Now I just need to make a bunch of maps…as you can see I am not much of an artist.
It can also be used to display a unique image for each location instead of or in addition to a map.
I am now 70 seconds into an animatic I’ve been working on for the past month. This has been absolutely kicking my ass, but it is so rewarding. Some friends agreed to help do the voices for it!
The sad: we euthanized our old parakeet Guy Peep today at age 14. He had been growing a tumor from his shoulder and it finally impacted his quality of life so much that we decided it was time. He was singing up until the end, cheery little soul that he was.
The positive thing about all this is that afterwards, Tom and I actually had a lovely day of reminiscing together, crying and just being together with all our good memories of our little birdie. Also, day drinking was allowed today and that helped.
That’s sad. How’s his little friend doing?
He was hurting and bullying Guy in his last weeks (birds are not kind to the old and weak), so he was staying with an elderly neighbor while we gave Guy everything he wanted for his last days. Then the elderly neighbor’s husband died (it was expected) and she had grown really attached to Pibble and we couldn’t bring ourselves to take him from her when he was being such a comfort to her. So we are currently birdless.
Oh man… You’re on a tragedy streak. Good thing the neighbour lady will get some bird comfort. And at least you still have the hummingbirds to swat, right?
