For once, the culinary disaster in the kitchen wasn’t my fault- and I was the first one to notice that something smelt like it was burning- which promptly saved the entire stovetop from bursting into flames given the pot had run dry and was seconds from a chaotic disaster. We had to air out the dining room, but no lasting harm was done.
Caught up with a friend I haven’t spoken to in awhile- we had fun writing some play-by-post stuff together. Creating ridiculous little AUs of canon franchises is always fun.
Having some difficulties with my genetic disorder, but some wins as well. The nosebleed is a bit unfortunate, but tolerable and controlled- and the bruising from a whole torso bleed ala autopsy diagramming awhile back has basically almost entirely disappeared, save for some still stubborn areas that aren’t too large.
Cosy afternoon inside away from the winter weather.
Stayed in while it rained all day today. Recorded guitars and bass for a song, just the rough mix already gets me going “oh yeah, this rocks!”. Will have to write lyrics for it when I’m inspired. XD
I thought my gesture drawing exercises in the morning came out better than yesterday’s, too.
Did two sinks worth of dishes, which was pretty cathartic. Running laundry at the moment… The dryer is inefficient at best, but the household backup is a bit absurd, so even running cycles through the entire weekend might just barely squeak by in terms of finishing in time. Hoping to launder some of the linens tomorrow…
Weather has been colder so getting to wear layers is fun, and girl cat now consistently is a ninja vampire for body heat. Sometimes she waits patiently and follows me when I go to bed way too late; even if she doesn’t I’ll wake up with her in a Sonic the Hedgehog ball in the bend of my knees the bend of my waist or in the hammock between my knees depending which sleep geography is available.
I got three vaccinations sort of on impulse yesterday and expected to have a bad weekend. My roll on the Table of Side Effects was “transform into cement golem 8-24 hours” so getting out of bed took a while but since it wasn’t combined with an all-day headache like the last three vaxxes I could mentally function. I seem to have made my saving throw driving around doing errands and laundry and catching sunlight.
Some happy hours spent playing a videogame I want to finish before Christmas. So nearly there…
kissed someone and found out he also loves interactive fiction?! this is literally the 3rd person I’ve met in the wild irl who knows what it is. he’s played a fuckton of choice of games, including study in steampunk: choice by gaslight!!! which is one of our mutual faves!!!
Found out about a fan-project: a point and click adventure named “Booze of Monkey Island”. It’s gratis!
Won an ebay auction for some nice stuff.
Ooh, exciting! Congratulations on winning the bid- if you feel up to sharing, what did you get? Ebay can be such a treasure trove for old electronics, vintage accessories, and fountain pens.
Linens are in the wash, yippee! Can’t wait to have super warm blankets and bedding tonight when they’ve tumbled out of the dryer. I’m currently nursing a headache from the weather, though TTRPG time last night was super fun. I like writing Joel- it’s always a fun dive to find bible quotes for him to use as part of his dialog.
Stamps. Since some weeks I’m (back) into stamp collecting. For many people they are just boring little pieces of paper and that’s perfectly ok, but for me they are both exciting and relaxing. I collected in my childhood and when I grew adult I considered collecting uncool.
an EXCELLENT afternoon & early night of IF coding, substantial improvements & changes with zero errors and perhaps also zero bugs (no coder can be sure that there’s no bugs introduced…)
Best regards from Italy,
dott. Piergiorgio.
Stamp collecting (philately) - Nice.
I collected stamps long ago. I have a more recent collection of issues I find interesting. However, I am way behind with mounting my specimens.
That sounds wonderful! It’s one of my favourite parts of getting international packages- seeing the variety of stamp designs and all of the intricate tiny scenes depicted in the art. It’s nice to be able to return to things we loved as children- there’s a sense of nostalgia and a deeper sense of appreciation for something that was important to us when we were younger. I hope that you enjoy your collection, and that you’re able to get your hands on a copy of whichever catch your interest!
I haven’t posted here before.
I actually woke up with the idea of having a good news day, so reading these posts has been great.
For today, I have had:
Neutral thing:
The snow melted enough that I didn’t have to shovel it. I don’t mind shovelling snow usually, but it game me more time for …
Positive thing: … nearly completing a holiday IF project. I hope to post it soon and with luck people will have fun with it.
Hope everyone is doing well,
Daz.
Got a fresh 3 pound Christmas tin of butter cookies today along with some glue, construction paper, and pipe cleaners to finish a Christmas craft project.
Also salvaged the bulbs from a frayed strand of Christmas lights. Strung up the bases with some salvaged thread and removed the wires to add to some scrap metal, so now I have roughly 100 little bits of colorful something in a small plastic spice jar… not sure if the bulbs are glass or plastic though and can’t tell if they are led or incandescent either. Regardless, I’m sure there’s some way I can recycle them into a home made ornament.
Little man had a great time at the seasonal festival, and picked up some odds and ends- he loved trying some of the candy popups they had on site, and he remembered that I like candycanes, so insisted on picking one out for me, which was very sweet. We ate cookies together today- chocolate chip, and he’s been enjoying his new pyjamas: snowflakes and cars and trucks, in a fleecy mink fabric.
I’ve clipped an angel brooch overtop of my sleeve- I lost it a long time ago, and it unexpectedly returned to me long after I’d thought it gone for good. I won’t be able to sleep with it on, not like how I wear my rings and necklace to sleep most nights, but it’s a nice little sparkly thing to occasionally remember exists when it gleams in the corner of my vision- and the point of having nice things is to enjoy them, even if you’re just hunched over at your desk feverishly painting a piece that you wind up discarding a few hours in- the whole process of painting was more so the point than the end result, so it was time well spent all the same.
Welcome! Be sure to announce the game here so we can enjoy the play.
