What's one positive/neutral thing that's happened today?

Totally breaking the (jokey) oath of silence about the Lounge, (but the fizzy meat juice anecdote has already escaped the bag, so I figured this would be okay) and Josh’s contribution to the great cat spoon reflection debate delighted me when I woke up. IntFiction, where people band together to ferret out crucial science surrounding kitty pictures.

Sorry to disappoint you, but that’s not a reflection of the kitty, it’s a reflection of a mouse. The mouse probably took the photo. It’s just playing with the kitty to show dumb cats are.

I cannot stop thinking about one of the father figures in CRaWL, and I’ve been tossing around the idea of putting together a little conversational game where you painstakingly interact with your dad. Anyways, I sat down and slapped together some cover art for it, so I suppose I’m committed to the idea, now!

I have blunted bangs that go across my forehead (when I don’t sweep them to the side or clip them in place, which is usual for when they get in my way, or they’ve outgrown enough to be unruly) and they were getting me in the eyes a bit, so I just neatened them up in the bathroom sink to a comfortable length (just barely covering my eyebrows.) Looking good so far! I still always get a bit nervous snipping them, even if it’s quite easy since the big chop to maintain their length.

I also really like the kitten PJ pants I got: they have a big broad sparkly blue ribbon as the drawstring, and are covered in a bunch of tiny cat heads where the kitties have scarfs and little expressions like ^u^ and >u< and .u. and such, really cute.

ETA: Having fun journalling by lantern light.

Maybe… a SeedComp! entry? :stuck_out_tongue:
I love the art of it :green_heart:

Neutral thing - Hot water handle busted in the shower and I was destroyed for my hubris of always taking hot showers by having to stand there butt naked while my whole family tried to figure out what to do

Positive thing - It shut off quickly and nothing else exploded! Plus our kitty cat is coming back minus one leg! Kitty tripod as my brother calls him. All in all, an interesting day so far.

And before you ask, yes I am dressed and no one else saw me!

My home artist got me a nice piece of cover art for my seedcomp entry. Thats definitely a feel good/positive vibes moment for me.

Finally have an idea for the French IF Comp. It if works well, I’ll have worked out how to include both themes… Also back to writing in French, that’s fun!

Tasting a new hazelnut instant coffee I found on the kitchen counter. The French press has Vietnamese coffee simmering away inside. Excuse the jug of milk- our pitcher is missing! And enjoy the cute animal mugs. (If anyone contributed to that forum meet up game, when you read my section, this’ll serve as proof that I do, indeed, collect cute animal mugs.)

Discovered baby spinach leafs are the perfect size to eat without having to open my mouth too much. I’m a hemophiliac, for context, (it’s a genetic disorder where your blood doesn’t coagulate properly, so you keep bleeding basically) and about a week or so ago a superficial scratch on the side of my mouth has repeatedly cracked and and widened, to the extent it’s now basically next to impossible to eat without sharp stabs of pain.

If I move my mouth, it rips the scab apart as well as tears into nearby skin, because of how mobile the area is. Brushing my teeth has been awful. Drinking water has been easy- I sip sort of weirdly close mouthed to the side anyways, and thankfully infection hasn’t set in. I’ve been trying to limit my meals to once a day, to try to set up the wound better- I think I may be out of luck until I can get it to scab at an angle that isn’t aligned with my mouth at the weird way it is, so that it doesn’t get obliterated when my mouth moves. Coffee helps with not being too hungry.

Earlier I discovered I can eat bananas fairly okay, since I barely have to open my mouth to do so. And now little spinach leafs are added to the list!

If the issue persists beyond another week- I’ll have no choice but to start painting it closed with this wound sealant I do have- it just burns like pouring gasoline on an open wound under the best of conditions, I imagine it’d be worse near a mucosal membrane, and it smells bad and I’m sensitive about smells.

I have a high pain tolerance, (one would have to be, I imagine, to stoically persist through my silly bo billy cat activities as my face cracks and bleeds in heavy rivulets and drips and drops) but am really fussy about some sensory stuff, so for now I’d rather bleed than deal with huffing like basically the smell of gas. I can’t really bandage it because of the area- I have a feeling it’s going to leave behind a hyper pigmented scar because of how long it’s been around and the constant disruption to the healing process, but hey, I only have one other notable scar, that’ll be kind of cool.

Basically: yummy spinach leafs. And maybe a cool facial scar!

Somewhat related to my previous post in the thread- I have an original character named Sam that I write a lot as a comfort character- easy, familiar, often in scenarios that are soft and fluffy and just all around enjoyable.

I relate a lot to him because I also hexed and cursed the little guy with hemophilia- difference is Sam has a more severe presentation of a different variant of the disorder (different coagulation protein issue basically), and he has to undergo treatment (I had to use all of the information I learned while writing a research paper on the impetus and process of the industrialization of recombinant coagulation factor IX somewhere!) and part of that is he has a chest port for easy access for transfusions.

Anyways- my boyfriend mentioned casually to me recently he’d been doing a lot of research into ports and cannulas and different treatment settings (hospital, centre, home) and the procedure so that when he wrote Sam’s boyfriend helping Sam with it, he could have the process done accurately because he knew it’d be special to me to demonstrate that he both listens when I go on my rambling tangents about personal experience and academic research into the disorder and cared to also do independent investigation. It was very sweet.

Oh my god this is a thing??? I’ve always wondered what modern methods could be used for someone with hemophilia! Wound sealant!

Eek! That sounds really painful and unpleasant, hope it turns around soon.

This is not at all on the same level, but when I was in high school I had my first bout of cold sores which came on really strong and made my lips basically just two extended suppurating wounds (which would glue themselves together overnight and have to be painfully separated in the mornings - super fun!) - I had to live on like juice alone for two weeks, and it sucked a lot. So I can see why basically doubling the foods you can eat is a big positive!

They even sell it at the local pharmacies! It’s basically just a little liquid bandage, though they have spray formulations too, and weird powdery stuff that my brother (who is obsessed with first aid, survivalism, and general outdoorsmanship) keeps in his bug out kit.

He has a calm head in a crisis, which is a good thing, because he’s the only reason I still have the first third of my right index finger after a slight mishap sent me into shock from blood loss once. Let me tell you, the grout was very unhappy with me after that. And the kitchen backsplash. And the sink. And the ceiling.

Well, him and all those tools, and a no nonsense attitude that impressed his CPR instructor when he was really calm about assessing critical scenarios. Growing up around a medical disaster careening around every corner would help with that, I suppose!

Happy to have shared that bright spot of info!

And, yeah- this was a few years ago, I was still in highschool- I had nerve pain for about two years afterwards (sparks as if something were crackling electric under the skin, random sharp pains and sort of a dull buzz like a numb limb) but that’s passed, and while it doesn’t interface properly with some screens anymore (maybe the scar tissue messes up the electrical conductivity or something? I dunno for sure!) and is kind of not really sensitive to hot or cold (still to some degree, but more so pressure) and it kinda fucked with my vibes when drawing, I ended up both teaching myself how to paint to avoid having to do proper lineart because of the tremors (which have mostly subsided), and I’m frankly happy to still have the darn thing, lol.

What is it about highschool and wicked injuries, eh? Thanks, Mike! That still sounds pretty bad, haha- the gluey quality to blisters and weeping wounds and the like pull and slough has always been super icky and gnarly to me- it’s why burns freak me out so bad and I’ve been a perfect little angel about sun protection (light blousy coverups, hats, meticulously applied and reapplied sunscreen of sufficient SPF, avoiding peak hours, and so on) and have never once gotten a sunburn in my life. I’ve seen a really nasty one on my brother, and no way!

But yeah! Stoked! Especially since I love spinach. Sometimes I’ll just eat it totally plain. My brother suggested that I could try eating some of his protein shakes if it comes to it, though he jokingly patted me on the head and went “but you shouldn’t drink enough coffee to kill a rabbit if you do, it has caffeine in it already” which is super annoying of a little (admittedly taller and broader) brother to do. It probably isn’t that much of a big deal, but at least it’s an option if I get antsy.

Oh! And very good kitty news.

A friend of mine was worried about what the heck was wrong with her cat. He’s seven months old, I love him, he’s always had ginormous disproportionate baby ears and he’s a freaking baby bat cat, with the brightest most charming little eyes and a sassy attitude to rule them all. We’ve known him since he was a little crumb of a kitten, and his best friend in the whole wide world is an older boy cat she also owns, who snuggles with him and licks him clean and gives him emotional support cuddles when he’s in trouble and being naughty. Anyways, apparently, there was something weird about his anatomy- but a visit to the vet says it should be a fairly standard surgery and it shouldn’t be too expensive, so yay for nothing imminently harmful and no weird medical mysteries!

Also, my boyfriend takes care of lots of cats- there’s a feral colony around, TNR in place, and unfortunately one got pretty badly injured. The good news is that he’s done beautifully after his visit to the vet, and cats do quite well with three legs instead of one bum one to drag about, his surgery got moved up and now he’s high as hell and super happy to sleep and snuggle and the best news of all, is that since he’s a disabled kitty now, they were worried he might not be able to cope as well outdoors anymore, (especially since there’s some bad dog owners who poorly manage and train their animals), so now he’s a forever indoors kitty! I’m so happy! He’s gonna get so many cuddles and snuggles and get fat and happy and be safe and sound inside, with other kitties for brothers and a nice soft bed and all the blankies his little heart could desire. It makes me so happy when animals also get to know the delight of soft and decadent fabrics to nestle in and cozy up underneath.

I didn’t know you could use liquid bandage inside your mouth. :grimacing: I have used a thing for cold sores in the mouth that’s like a glue that sticks to it to heal and it’s got a sort of licorice eucalyptus taste and a numbing agent.

I have also enjoyed dipping baby spinach leaves in dressing - sort of a de-constructed salad! Or you could paint them with some hummus! Mm.

Oh, goodness, no- not on the inside of your mouth! The wound is sort of at the very corner of my mouth, (on the outside!) and it extends into the furrow that my face just kind of naturally has- I always look like I’m frowning a bit in natural repose. The little paint on bottle I have reeks of gasoline, and it apparently has isooctane in it, which I imagine is why it smells like gas to me- I can’t imagine putting it in my mouth.

Though, with the spray on stuff- that smells sweet, I mean… I guess? You could? I can’t imagine that it’d be delicious or anything, but it seems like it would sting a lot less than the formula that smells like gas, and it is meant to form a film over like, wet surfaces…

I’ve never had to find out, since when I’ve had dental work done I just accept I’m going to gush and dribble blood and will sit around with gauze packed cheeks like a silly little hamster for awhile. I do have some functionality of the gene responsible for producing the coagulation factor IX, so I do heal eventually on my own- even if the process takes a long time, and the blood loss is excessive. For example, if I get a nosebleed- I usually (and I’ve measured this) will fill the sink up to about a 2 to 3 inch mark from the bottom of the basin with blood, or maybe around 6 to 8 double cupped handfuls of blood, or a bleed time of about 4 or 6 hours with varying intensity and stopping and starting. But it will stop eventually. Pressure helps!

Hummus is pretty tasty, I only discovered that fairly recently. While I’ve got a fairly adventurous palate, and will try most things at least once, especially if offered to me- (a long story on how I wound up eating balut out of politeness…) I haven’t actually tried a lot of stuff you’d find at the grocery store, since we just never grew up eating that sort of stuff. I like it with crackers! Which are a bit too crumbly for the current moment, but I’ve never thought of them with spinach leafs before. Something to test out tomorrow, maybe!
