What's one positive/neutral thing that's happened today?

Decluttering neutral: working through old photos of past difficult times was sad, but has also inspired me to take more photos of current happier times for better memories in the future.

Thanks for keeping us up to date on prehistorical shenanigans.

I’ve always wondered whether trilobites played blackjack. Or are they more the poker-playing type?

They’re not great at strategic thinking. They prefer roulette.

That’s a hell of a lucky streak, calling the odds for 270m years!

Trilobites playing poker gave me the mental image of a Kabutops(The Pokemon if the reference isn’t obvious) gangster puffing on a cigar as he plays poker in some shadey gambling parlor and threatens to cut anyone who dares disrespect him. ANd know, I don’t know how an arthropod with scythes for hands holds his cards.

Anyways, the grocery order I have scheduled for later this morning includes a watermelon, one of my favorite fruits, so I have that to look forward to.

I’ve been grinning so much my face hurts for the last like, half hour after reading Charm’s review for My Girl. Charm got it perfectly. I love it so much I want to print it out and eat it.

I just finished What Remains of Edith Finch.

Was putzing around with a new, much larger candle than the smaller tea-light candles I’ve been using so far, and it took a bit of trial and error and left me with sooty, waxy hands, but I managed to trim the wicks down to the right length and stop the massive plumes of black smoke from them being too long, which is a total win. It’s supposed to smell like orange creamsicles, and it’s pretty yummy.

My wife and I recently bought a home for her elderly parents, who live in CT. We live in VA. My father-in-law owns a lot of possibly valuable things, including a quite large collection of trilobites.

So we drove up there a few days ago to fetch the stuff he didn’t want the movers to hurt. We packed 13 boxes of trilobites and some other fossils, some statues of historical figures and eagles, etc. The trilobites that were too big to put in boxes were bubble wrapped and put in the back of our car.

Then to reward ourselves my wife and I drove to a casino hotel on the way home. That was positive, but the most positive part is that today, after a harrowing drive through PA, we reached home and unpacked the trilobites and hopefully never have to move them again.

It was a beautiful day. It started rainy but then turned sunny with an intensely blue sky, very different than the Texas sky. It only got to about 75F today and it’ll get down into the 50s tonight. I know I bang on about temperature a lot, but it’s just so incredible that you can actually live like this in the summer, where it’s cold enough in the morning for a flannel robe.

And this is going to sound negative, but it isn’t because we are weird people. Tom found a dead hummingbird and this was the highlight of his week. He was so enraptured by it, playing with its little feet and taking a zillion pictures of it in his hand. It was barely bigger than his thumbnail. I had to make him throw it away after about an hour of examining all its tiny parts.

Also, I saw some big blue butterflies today. They would not stop dicking around and just sit still for a second so I could really see their wings, but they were blue.

I love cats. They always provide positive moments.

I’m posting too much recently, sorry.

The other positive today: my cat Blue, who has a terminal osteosarcoma, was still around and happy to see us when we got home. :smiley_cat:

Had lunch out in town with my husband today.

My son left his plushies on the couch posed in what appears to be a snack time circle, which is very sweet. Occasionally when he leaves for awhile, he’ll make sure to prop them by the window, to bird watch, or with packaged snacks, to not be hungry, or tucked into bed with his blanket so they’re nice and cozy. Very sweet how nurturing children can be.

He also wrote a very sweet note of his own accord for me a few days ago.

It reads: “you take care of yourself while I’m [gone]. Noodles are on the table freshly made for you. Love, [kiddo.]

It’s been a blast, helping some of the trans meowmeows in the comeows pick out new name ideas. It’s going hilariously so far.

As Nat said- they’re all either super esoteric, the name you’d give a gothic novel protagonist (hi!) or TTRPG characters, hahah.

Some of my suggestions were a hit, though- like Blythe, Yves, Willow, Tallulah, Vervain, Laurel, Briar, Hawthorne, Amaline… And some super cute ones have been tossed into the ring by others, like Ruaridh or Kestrel.

We ran outta ketchup, (sadface), but have subbed it out with Thai sweet chilli sauce and it’s just as good.

Kind of a struggling to find the tin lining sort of post- but on the bright side, I do have the time and ability to take things easy on bedrest while recovering from this stint of hemarthrosis. I have a space arranged more or less to the best of my ability to make myself as comfortable as I can be, I have pain medication I can dip into when the agony becomes unbearable (though I’m holding off, to not waste my window of when I can safely take the meds), I have a range of low-to-medium effort hobbies and ways of keeping myself preoccupied in easy reach, and this isn’t my first rodeo, I know how to ride through the horrors.

It does kind of suck not being able to stand or walk without being in pain, though. Sitting is also hard, but doable, if I am careful about my posture and supports. Laying down is alright.

The thing about having a disability with dynamic presentation is you kind of have already prepared for the worst, which makes it a lot easier to handle things when shit hits the fan? So there is that.

If I must languish, at least it’s in Victorian boyprince sickwaif mode, propped up amongst comfortable pillows and blankets and with my writing jacket in hand’s reach for when I feel well enough to tepidly scrawl in my little notebook.

Hope you’re through the worst of it soon Sophia.

Today’s positive: a more restful day planned after recent busy times.
