I keep finding myself looping around to John Ayliff’s Seedship. Something haunting about that game that keeps me coming back.
I played Creaks, which was AMAZING. I haven’t loved all of Amanita’s games, but this one was just fantastic. Really, if you like a great story, gorgeous art, great puzzles, and a freaky feel, play this one.
I’m playing this when I give myself time off after SpringThing. I hear this get recommended a lot
EJ and I have been playing Pokemon Scarlet, which is fun despite some technical issues. (Also, our dumb cat keeps trying to catch the pokemon on the TV, for which I admire his enthusiasm.)
Are there any Resident Evil fans here? The Resident Evil 4 remake releases March 24. I’m pretty excited!
The demo is out today on Steam, Playstation, and Xbox. I have it downloading now
(will update after I’ve played it)
Update: It was really good! They really did the iconic village scene from the original justice. I died a few times at the hands of chainsaw man before finishing it.
Replaying FFIX right now. Really chewing on the ATE system which was something new they tried at the time:
"Active Time Events, abbreviated to ATE, is a system that gives the player the ability to view short optional scenes in Final Fantasy IX that are happening at the same time elsewhere in the world. The system was created by the game’s director, Hiroyuki Ito.
While the player is off in a different location, they can view the actions of their other party members, or non-player characters that occur roughly at the same time. When an ATE occurs, the words “Active Time Event” appear at the bottom left corner of the screen, and a distinct chime is played. The player can then use the Select Button to view the scene."
The interesting thing about these cutscenes was that often times you were presented with multiple options to choose and sometimes choosing one would lock you out of seeing the others, making the decision somewhat weightier. They were also often semi-interactive despite being called cutscenes, as dialog options were often allowed during the scene.
Has me wondering about whether this might be adopted to IF and how best to go about it.
Yeah, that’s a good one.
Since my game is finished, I’m playing more video games! I was able to complete a playtesting commitment this morning, so I fired up the console. Right now, I’m playing the PS5 rerelease of Judgement. It’s a Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio game; they’re best known for the Yakuza series of games. I first discovered Yakuza during the PS3 generation, but Yakuza 0 (PS4) is the one that made me a committed fan.
Judgement is fine. It has lots of minigames. The protagonist is played by a famous Japanese actor. His hair is awful! I don’t mean his hairstyle, necessarily. I mean the tech used to display it onscreen.
I’m not sure if I will beat it before Resident Evil 4 comes out this Friday. Probably not.
Oh. The second wave of Fire Emblem Engage DLC dropped, but I’ve beaten the game already. Maybe I’ll try a Hard difficulty playthrough one of these days. Not anytime soon, though.
Technically I played Duskers for maybe 20 minutes yesterday, because I had a dizzy spell, lol. It’s a lot of fun, though it makes me jump a bit, now and then!
Heyyyy, congrats!! Looking forward to seeing it!
Thanks! Judging by your flair, you’ll have one too? I’ll be sure to check it out.
Wow, this looks pretty great
If you like stuff that forces you to be very careful and methodical, then this is perfect for you…! It’s a rogue-lite, so it can also be rather punishing at times, lol.
But it’s really excellent for that feeling of carefully sweeping through each room as the tension and difficulty gradually increases, and once you’ve decided you can leave, there is a huge sigh of relief.
…Unless something went hilariously-wrong, at which point you are thankful for being able to type quickly and think under pressure (the latter of which I cannot do at all, so getting attacked usually causes me to suffer wayyyy more consequences than necessary lol).
The game also focuses on the feeling of surviving out of spite, so you’re always one or two mistakes away from ending your own run, lol. It’s less about progression, and more about breaking your previous survival streak.
Honestly, it’s one of my favs. I love Duskers so much lol.
I choke big time in roguelite/likes. Can’t get into the right mindset!
I wonder if @DeusIrae has played it. I think I’ve heard him mention enjoying hacker games.
E: deleted preview bc it’s just a big ad
I’ve had it on my watch-list for a bit, but never taken the plunge – seems up my alley, but it’s very hard for me to play games that aren’t turn-based these days, both because I have a small kid who’s not yet super-great at sleeping, and because I can’t easily use a mouse with my laptop given my current setup. So a real-time roguelike, where a suddenly-waking baby or some bobbling of the trackpad can lead to permadeath, is not really in the cards for right now!
Well then I have great news! Duskers largely has long, tenses pauses with only occasional bursts of activity. Also, no mouse controls at all! It’s all on keyboard!
Oh, that’s great to know – I was operating on screenshots and assumptions so happy to be corrected! Moving it up in the (admittedly still long) queue accordingly.
I think I’ll make a new one of these every month (quarter? we’ll see how thing go) because the amount of posts is probably not conducive to new posters entering the conversation. But not this month, because I am assuming Spring Thing will be the main thing going.
I am tempted to buy the rerelease of Persona 3 Portable, because I’ve never finished the game with the woman protag (often referred to by fans as “feMC”). Maybe! I want to get an infinite rocket launcher for Resident Evil 4 first
FeMC is best MC, do it
But more seriously, the FeMC route (and overall PSP gameplay) is much more in line with subsequent Persona games and has entirely different (and IMHO, mostly better) social links. Just… Stay away from Ken’s though. You’ll thank me later.
Sold. I fired it up, and it looks pretty good for an almost 13-year game! I bought a Playstation TV just to play Golden and P3P, having played the PS2 originals. P3P was pretty rough on an HD tv, but I still loved it.
Made my way to the tutorial visit to Tartarus. I forgot this has inheritable skill cards! Cool cool.
I’m a bit of a super fan! Maybe I’ll try fuse all the persona this time.
I’ve been playing the heck out of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess lately. It’s the first Zelda game I played, but I’ve never actually finished it (or any Zelda game, for that matter ) so I’m determined to beat this one. It’s actually really fun! I’m playing the Wii version, and I think that’s really a great way to play it. The motion controls make the swordfighting exciting and engaging for me! The game’s also just got a really good story and music.
Overall, I’m enjoying the game a lot.
Nice! I think it’s the only Zelda game I haven’t beaten (other than the Musou stuff). I wish we could get a Switch port.
