I think we’d all love if they were much sooner, but I’d take late over never. Wild to imagine how much has changed since the XYZZYs started, though.

What to do, then? Surely the IFTF can recommend us on how we should proceed. I think we go ahead with it on Forms simultaneously with the new one, as was mentioned in another thread about XYZZY 2022. Even if it isn’t necessarily counted, we go with it. As @AmandaB says, use Forms and just have people checking the nominations. I’d be happy to do checking as well.

I agree with Max-- let’s just go for it. It sounds like a headache to bundle it with 2023, and there’s still time left this year. Maybe they won’t be official, but it would be a good rehearsal for how to do it earlier next year if the organizers aren’t going to do it.
We just need someone to take charge of it and this person should:
1.) Be a regular member in good standing
2.) Not have published a game in 2022 (no appearance of bias)
3.) Have a really good working knowledge of Google forms and how to efficiently collect data
4.) Have some time on their hands
5.) Be willing to ask for help and delegate some responsibility, like vetting dates, and be very transparent on the forum about all this.
Don’t everyone raise their hands all at once, now.

I support this! I can’t be that person (game published in 2022, already doing some competitions), but I will vote in such a version of the awards.
Edit: I should add that if one person doesn’t feel up to it, a group of 2 or 3 could do it just as well.

Max, don’t you have end-of-semester responsibilities, like final exams? This is a big project that needs to get started right away if it’s going to get done, and as a longtime high school teacher I can confidently say that if your teachers aren’t crushing you with exams and projects right now, their teacher membership cards will probably be revoked. I have total faith in you, but you should think about how this might impact you.

The school year almost just started (a half-term ago), so I have time. I am also at the start of my iGCSE’s, so the actual exams are in 3 years. Anyway, I spend my time playing guitar, studying, and coding (pretty much those exactly), so coding can be snipped out for now and replaced with this. But I doubt I would do it on my own.

I don’t support hostile takeovers as a rule. That’s not a good precedent. I’m also sure there’s plenty we don’t know behind the scenes. I’d rather give the current management another opportunity to at least speak for themselves.
With that said, I’m indirectly glad it got this far. The fact that y’all are willing to take it over, amongst other comments, proves that there’s a strong community interest in seeing it continue.
That’s what I hoped to demonstrate to the current management in hopes that it might encourage them to not lose faith.

You’re right. It shouldn’t be a take-over, it should be a pass-over.
But…
(this is a really bad analogy)
if somebody who is meant to fix a very important house at the start of each year is coming later and later each year, and at one point they just don’t give a signal about coming at all, and we haven’t heard from them since the last year, surely it would be fair to get the house fixed just before it’s nearly lost?
Bad analogy, a way of saying if it starts getting too late we might lose it if we do not take action.

I understand, Max. We all feel the mix of urgency and anxiousness. Call me a sentimental fool, but I feel it’s best to do a wellness check on your repairman before we start searching the classifieds for another repairman.

If we wait for a call until the new year, then that seems like a good amount of time. And plus if we don’t get it until new year, then we start around new year. That will be the start of a new term and I will have loads of time, so I will definitely be able to help.
Plus, if new year not only will if be a sign @maga has sort of given up on the XYZZYs, but then we can combine this one and 2023 together and give it a new start at the beginning of the year. Seems tricky, but probably better.

We absolutely don’t have to do this, but I can’t imagine seeing this as a hostile takeover. It’s not hostile. And given that this probably wouldn’t be official, it wouldn’t be a takeover. Surely you don’t really think that’s anyone’s intent here?
If @dfabulich has emailed multiple times over a year and not heard back, I’d say that’s a pretty good indication that it’s not going to happen. Will another month matter?
It feels very sad to just let the whole year go by without trying. Although if it doesn’t get community support, clearly it’s DOA.

I’d like either an acknowledgement that they are or are not continuing, honestly. Running the XYZZYs without the latter feels hostile to me. Presumptuous at least. Your opinion is just as valid, of course.
