I’m sorry, but did you actually read my post? I laid out all the reasons why I thought waiting was the best idea beyond being “judgemental” (I wasn’t in favor of a hostile takeover from Sam either for the reasons I outlined). Dan Fabulich provided information I wasn’t aware of when I wrote it so there’s certainly room to disagree with my conclusions in light of that. But I did try to lay things out facts first until the end. So I’m not sure what you’re responding to other than my assertion that being cutthroat doesn’t change the fundamentals.
Anyway, the award doesn’t mean anything without the community and given the contents of this thread I think the community’s best interest is in waiting. Feel free to disagree.
It’s very reassuring to see that the registered community sentiment via the polls is still strongly in favor of the ideas that the XYZZY Awards can be saved and that it is worthwhile to do so.
I’m probably the most extreme proponent of taking action beyond simply waiting and hoping, but in light of the poll numbers even I concede that three more months probably won’t materially change the situation with respect to recovery, and that the current organizer deserves a chance to take the actions needed to put things back on course.
I’d like to take a moment here to acknowledge the efforts that many of you have made to try get your points across, sometimes pointedly and sometimes gently. I’ve been listening.
I was asked to pass on some news from Pinkunz by one of his friends. He was hospitalized for some severe injuries but is on the path to being more stable. The XYZZY preparations are in progress (with the vetting process done) and there should be some news on that front relatively soon.
I was talking to Pinkunz a couple of days ago (before reading this thread). He’s currently going through some really tough times unrelated to his accident and rehabilitation, so give him some slack. As this is personal, I won’t say anything about it here.
He’s since assured me that he’s aware of the discussion in this thread. I can only assume that he will provide an update as soon as he’s able. Please be patient.
In the meantime, I see no reason not to plan for the future.
